[. . . ] Use with a commercially available kick pedal. 962a * In the interest of product improvement, the specifications and/ or appearance of this unit are subject to change without prior notice. 4 USING THE UNIT SAFELY TD-3 (Percussion Sound Module) Attach the stand holder (included with the optional drum stand) to the TD-3. Using the screws attached to the bottom panel, attach the holder so the unit is oriented as shown in the diagram. fig. TD-3. e Narrow Wide · To attach the stand holder, remove the four 8 mm screws (M5 x 8) from the bottom of the TD-3 and use them. Use of other screws may result in damage to the unit. 928 · When turning the unit upside-down, get a bunch of newspapers or magazines, and place them under the four corners or at both ends to prevent damage to the buttons and controls. Also, you should try to orient the unit so no buttons or controls get damaged. 929 · When turning the unit upside-down, handle with care to avoid dropping it, or allowing it to fall or tip over. 5 USING THE UNIT SAFELY PD-85BK fig. PD-85. e_80 (V-Pad) · On the PD-85BK, adjusting the head tension affects only the head response, and does not change the pitch of the sound, as it would on an acoustic drum. Sensor Hoop (Rim) · The head tension will change as the instrument is used, so you should readjust when necessary. · The head stretches when used for extended periods, so even when this is adjusted to 7 mm in the following procedure, you may not achieve the same degree of tension as when the head was initially adjusted. Strike the head to check the feel and response as you adjust the tension. Head Stand Fixing Screw Tuning Bolt Output Jack Washer Holder Frame 1. Use the tuning key supplied with the FD-8 to tighten the tuning bolts. Tighten the bolts until there is a space of approximately 7 mm between the frame and the hoop. fig. PD-85-Head1. e Adjusting the Head Tension When adjusting, use the tuning key supplied with the FD-8. Hoop 7mm The PD-85BK is shipped from the factory with the head tension loosened. Be sure to adjust the tension before use. In general, a tension that produces a strike response approximately the same as an acoustic drum will be appropriate. Frame A black, 7 mm strip is printed at the edge of this page. Use this as a reference when making the adjustment. · Striking the head when the head tension is loose may damage the sensor and head. · Should you neglect to make the appropriate settings, you could likely experience the following problems: Sometimes it does not sound (uneven volume). The volume is too low (reduced sensitivity). Tighten each tuning bolt one by one, observing the numerical order shown in the diagram. Do not firmly tighten a single tuning bolt by itself. Doing so will make it impossible to tension the head evenly, and will cause malfunctions such as failure to accurately detect the striking location. fig. PD-85-Head2 3 1 5 4 2 2. Fine-tune the adjustment while continuing to check the pad feel and response. 7mm The band has a width of 7 mm. Use this for adjusting the head tension. 6 USING THE UNIT SAFELY Attaching the Pad to a Stand fig. PD-85-Set. e Playing the PD-85BK fig. PD-85-HR. e_90 Tighten Head Shot Rim Shot Loosen Head Head Rim To play the sound assigned to the head, hit only the head. Rod Pass the rod through the pipe that is inside the holder. To play a rim shot, you must strike both the head and the rim of the pad simultaneously. When attaching the PD-85BK to the mount, be sure to tighten the stand fixing screw securely. If it remains loose, the pad could fall off. · If hitting the head produces a rim sound instead, reduce the Rim Sensitivity value on the TD-3. The only the head shot will sound when it's set to "OFF. " · On the other hand, if you find it difficult to get rim shot sounds to play, raise the Rim Sensitivity value. For details, refer to the TD-3 Owner's Manual (p. 59). Cross Stick fig. PD-85-XS. e_90 Rim Rim The cross stick sound is sometimes referred to as a "closed rim shot. " When using the PD-85BK to play the cross stick, be sure that you only strike the rim (outer edge) of the pad. Placing your hand on the head (center area) of the pad might prevent the cross stick sound from being played properly. 7 USING THE UNIT SAFELY About the Lock Bushings The PD-85BK is provided with lock bushings to prevent rotation and loosening of the tuning bolts caused by vibration transmitted from the hoop, as the result of using rim shots or other performance techniques. [. . . ] · Take care not to pinch your fingers. · The tips of the anchor bolts are sharp. · When moving the setup, be sure to remove the screws and fold the stand. Transporting the KD-8 while it remains open may subject the stand to excessive strain and result in damage to the stand.
