Lay the pruner on the ground and ensure that no objects or obstructions are in the immediate vicinity. Make sure nothing can come in contact with the bar and chain. 9 STARTING AND STOPPING See Figures 10 - 12. TO START A COLD ENGINE: DO NOT squeeze the throttle trigger until the engine starts and runs. n Lay the trimmer on a flat, bare surface. n PRIME - Press the primer bulb 7 times. n SET the start lever to the START position. n PULL the rope until the engine starts. n Allow the engine to run for 15 seconds. Chemicals can damage, weaken, or destroy plastic, which may result in serious personal injury. Only the parts shown on the parts list are intended to be repaired or replaced by the customer. All other parts should be replaced at a Ryobi Authorized Service Center. Fig. 13 CHAIN TENSION See Figures 13 - 14. WARNING: To avoid possible serious injury, never touch or adjust the chain while the motor is running. The saw chain is very sharp; always wear protective gloves when performing maintenance to the chain. 14 13 MAINTENANCE REPLACING THE BAR See Figures 15 - 20. n Remove all slack from chain by turning the chain tensioning screw clockwise, assuring that the chain seats into the bar groove during tensioning. n Lift the tip of the bar up to check for sag. Release the tip of the bar, and turn the chain tensioning screw 1/2 turn clockwise. Repeat this process until sag does not exist. n Hold the tip of the bar up and tighten the bar nut securely.
