Make sure your Wii Controller is synced to the console and the Wireless Motion XS receiver is firmly attached to the Wii Controller's Extension Port. My game seems to receive input signals although I do not even touch the Wireless Motion XS.   Repeat the synchronisation process by pressing the Sync button on the Wireless Motion XS,  this time making sure the analog thumbstick of the Wireless Motion XS remains in its neutral position during syncing. You may also reset the thumbstick by making sure it rests in its neutral position and simultaneously pushing and holding A,  B,  Plus & Minus on the Wii Controller it is connected with.
