[. . . ] 2 If the menu's overlay layer is not visible, click the Show/Hide Overlay button so it becomes selected. The overlay graphics appear. 3 If the menu's highlight layer is not visible, click the Show/Hide Highlight button so it becomes selected. The highlight graphics appear. 4 Select the Highlight tool by clicking its button (or press M). The Highlight tool is used to create buttons. 5 Drag a marquee around the area that will define the button. Make sure to include any overlay graphics that will be part of the button. Editing Buttons, Graphics, and Text 109 When you release the mouse button, DVD Producer creates a dotted rectangle on the highlight layer. When a viewer selects or activates this button in the completed DVD, the DVD player will change the colors of the overlay graphics enclosed by the rectangle (and jump to the defined link). Next, you must link the buttons to movie chapter points or other menus--see "Creating Button Links" on page 121. Note: The button highlight rectangles must not overlap. DVD Producer will not let you create a DVD if any menu buttons overlap, because some PC-based DVD players cannot play such menus. If any buttons overlap, move or resize them (see "Moving and Resizing Objects" on page 112). Editing Butto n s, Gra p h ic s , a n d Te x t When editing a Photoshop-created menu, make sure that the overlay and highlight layers are visible (select the Show/Hide Overlay button and Show/Hide Highlight button). Also, make sure that the Selection tool is selected (click the Selection tool button or press V). If editing a menu that contains only floating graphics and text blocks, you only need to display the background layer. Note: You cannot edit graphics or text blocks in a motion menu. These objects must be composited in the video before importing it into DVD Producer. 110 Chapter 8, Working with Menus The Safe Zone Televisions are designed to project images that are larger than the physical screen (this is called "overscanning"). This ensures that the image fills the whole screen, but it also means that the outside edges of the image are cropped. The part of the image that can be seen is called the safe zone. Any object that you move beyond of the safe zone will be cut off when viewed on a TV screen (but not when viewed on a PC, because software DVD players can display the whole image). When you position or resize an object on a menu, you should check whether it falls within the safe zone. To show or hide the safe zone, do one of the following: · To display the safe zone, choose Menu Editor > View > Show Safe Zone. · To hide the safe zone, choose Menu Editor > View > Hide Safe Zone. Text Safe zone Image Safe zone Editing Buttons, Graphics, and Text 111 Selecting Objects You can select single or multiple objects, and add or remove objects from the selection. To select objects floating on a menu: 1 Display the menu in the Menu Editor window and do one of the following: · To select a single object, click it. · To add additional objects to the selection, Control-click them. · To select multiple objects, drag a marquee around them.
