If you haven't done so already, please follow the instructions on the Start Kindling sticker that was attached to your Kindle display and plug in your Kindle to charge the battery. The charge indicator light will illuminate on the bottom edge of your Kindle and a lightning bolt will appear on the battery icon at the bottom of the display. You can purchase, transfer, and listen to audiobooks from Audible. com and you can transfer MP3 files from your computer to play as background music while you read. (For information about transferring these materials to your Kindle, see Chapter 8. ) Audiobooks On your Home screen, your audiobooks list the title and author, but they also have a small speaker icon to indicate that they are audiobooks. To listen to one of your audiobooks, select it from your Home screen. You will see a page similar to the one shown below. Kindle provides a standard set of controls which are explained below. Beginning -- takes you back to the beginning of the audiobook. Previous Section -- moves backwards in the audiobook to the previous section. -- moves backwards thirty seconds from the current location. Pause/Play -- pauses or plays the audiobook (there is no Stop control). -- moves ahead thirty seconds from the current location. Performing a Search To perform a search, you first press the Search key to display the Search line shown below. The Search line provides a text area for you to enter your search criteria. In the example below, the user has entered the word politics in the Search line. To perform a search, follow these steps: 1. If the bottom of your screen is not displaying the Search line, press the Search key (shown above). You can use whole words or partial words, and no distinction is made between lower and upper case. Select "Go" to submit the search. You will see the Search Results page that allows you to refine your search or choose a result. 4. 2 The Search Results Page By default, your search will look only in the reading materials you have on your Kindle and the metadata (like title and author) of the materials you have stored in Your Media Library on Amazon. This includes anything purchased, any personal documents you have transferred, any local reference materials, and any annotations that you have created. You can expand your search to include locations beyond your Kindle such as Wikipedia, the Web, or the Kindle Store by making the appropriate selection on the Search Results page.
