Navigating the Material To navigate through this course, select topics using either the left navigation menu or the Previous/Next buttons at the top right corner of each page. [. . . ] The Broadcom® BCM5752 Ethernet controller supports 10/100/1000 BASE-T Ethernet connectivity. The 5752 includes a 10/100/1000-Mbps Ethernet MAC with full/half-duplex capability at all speeds and 10/100 copper PHY. The Broadcom BCM5752 is one of the controllers that implement the advanced PCI Express® host interface. The BCM5752 is optimized for the tight space constraints of mobile PCs, so it has the industry's smallest footprint. In addition, the BCM5752 can sense how the mobile PC is being used and reduces the power to the lowest level necessary for that use. Whether the computer is docked or mobile, transmitting data or not, the BCM5752's advanced power management logic provides six power-down modes to always use the lowest power possible, extending battery life. Through an integrated Trusted Platform Module (TPM), the BCM5752 also includes support for the Trusted Computing Group 1. 1b specification, offering security features and strong authentication to protect corporate information from attack. Broadcom Advanced Control Suite The Broadcom Advanced Control Suite is a Windows® diagnostic utility that can be installed from the ResourceCD or support. dell. com. The Control Suite allows you to view statistics for the adapter, as well as a method to troubleshoot the adapter in a Windows setting. Troubleshooting 1000 Mbit Connection 100 Mbit Connection 10 Mbit Connection Steady yellow -- 1000 Mb Steady orange -- 100 Mb Steady green -- 10 Mb The network jack on the back of the computer contains link and data activity LEDs. A green (10 Mb) or amber (100 Mb) link light indicates the network connection is active. If the link status light is off, replace the network cable. Blinking activity indicates the network adapter driver is loaded and the adapter is detecting activity. The amount of time saved varies on each phone line. PCM Upstream -- Increases the upstream data rates from the system to the ISP, which reduces the upload times for large files and e-mail attachments. A maximum upstream data rate of 48 Kbps is possible, compared to the previous V. 90 standard and maximum upstream data rates of 31. 2 Kbps. NOTE: The modem is currently v. 92 capable. However, the PCM Upstream feature is ISP dependent. While PCM Upstream does increase upstream speeds, it also reduces download speeds at the same time. Because of this, Dell has disabled PCM Upstream on the computer. Modem-on-Hold The Modem-on-Hold (MOH) feature requires an applet to put the modem on hold to receive the incoming call or to place an outbound call on the other phone line. Modem-on-Hold is disabled by default. NOTE: MOH requires call waiting service from the phone company and V. 92 support from the ISP. V. 44 Compression V. 44 compression is a new ITU standard designed to improve data compression rates between the computer and the ISP. These higher compression rates, which increase between 20 and 60 percent on average and as much as 200 percent, mean more data can be downloaded in the same amount of time. Since HTML text files are highly compressible, you notice the most significant improvement when browsing and searching the Web.
