Using Your Documentation 1 Using the Software User Documentation Your computer shipped from the factory with several software programs installed. System Passwords The computer provides two levels of password security: administrative-level (supervisor) and user-level (user). Either password prevents unauthorized acces to the computer. The supervisor password enables full access to all System Setup fields. The user password enables full access to only the Set User Password and Password on boot security fields and read access to all other System Setup fields. (See "Security Menu" on page 55 for a complete list of System Setup security fields. ) If multiple users have access to the computer (such as in a network environment), a supervisor password can prevent unauthorized access to certain security options. Choose the type of password security that is appropriate for your work. A message appears telling you that the changes have been saved. Press <Enter> again to return to the Security menu. Press <Esc> to go to the Exit menu. Select Exit Saving Changes, press <Enter>, and press <Enter> again to restart the computer. Locking the Keyboard The keyboard lock enables you to protect your system when you walk away from it for a time. To use the keyboard lock, you must first enable a password through System Setup. (See "Creating a Password" on page 60 for instructions. To lock your keyboard, press <Fn+F7>. To unlock your keyboard, type your password and press <Enter>. 62 Using System Security Using Power Management Options Your computer includes power-management options that can help the battery charge last longer and extend the life of the battery, LCD panel, and other components. Power-management options slow down or shut off system components when the components are not being used.
