[. . . ] The virtual servers share the hardware resources of one physical server. The physical server is called the host and the virtual server is called the guest. Server virtualization can be attained with following three methods: virtual machines, paravirtualization, and operating system virtualization. The Virtual Machine Management component uses the virtual machine method. Server virtualization with the virtual machine method lets you create virtual machines on the host machine. All the virtual machines have their own operating system, disk storage, and network resources that are independent of the host operating system. To use the virtual machine method of the virtualization, you must install the virtual machine monitor software on your server. The virtual machine monitor software is also called hypervisor. You can install the hypervisor on the operating system or on the hardware of your server. When you install the hypervisor on the operating system, it is called host virtualization. When you install the hypervisor on the system hardware, it is called bare metal virtualization. See "About Virtual Machine Management" on page 33. About Virtual Machine Management portal page The Virtual Machine Management portal page provides you with an overview of your virtual resources. On the Virtual Machine Management portal page, in the left pane, you can see the Hyper-V and VMware platforms. Under the platform you can see a list of the host machines that belong to it. On the host machine you can manage your virtual resources: the virtual machines, the virtual disks, and the virtual networks. Introducing Virtual Machine Management About Virtual Machine Management tasks 35 To view the details of the host machine, click on its symbol. In the right pane, you can see the details of the selected host machine. In the right pane, you also have access to the tasks that let you manage the virtual resources on the host machine. In the left pane, you can expand the host machine and see the list of the virtual machines that are created on it. To view the details of the virtual machine or run management tasks on it, click the virtual machine symbol in the left pane. See "About Virtual Machine Management" on page 33.
