[. . . ] Pull rope out slowly until you feel drag. Without allowing the rope to retract, continue pulling rope with one rapid full arm stroke. Return rope slowly to original position. NOTES Following the instructions listed in the steps above avoids potential damage to the recoil mechanism. If recoil starter handle is frozen and will not operate engine, proceed as follows: a. Pull as much rope out of starter as possible. Release starter handle and let it snap back against starter to break up ice; these two steps should ONLY be done WHEN STARTER IS FROZEN. Stopping Your Engine and Short-Term Storage Stop engine according to equipment manufacturer's instructions. To avoid unsupervised operation of an engine, especially by children, NEVER leave it unattended when it is running. Always turn off the engine after use and remove ignition key, if provided. Failure to do so may lead to serious injury or death. WARNING NEVER store engine with fuel in the fuel tank inside a building with potential sources of ignition such as hot water or space heaters, clothes dryers, electric motors, etc. Doing so may lead to an explosion resulting in death or serious injury. Recoil Starters With engine running, pull starter rope with a rapid continuous full arm stroke 3 or 4 times. 120V AC NOTE The unusual sound made by pulling starter rope will not harm engine or starter. II. Electric Starters 3 NOTES When connecting power cord, always connect power cord to switch box on engine first; then into outlet. For European 220V AC applications use an appropriate grounded extension lead available locally. Connect power cord to switch box on engine. With engine running, push starter button and spin starter for several seconds. NOTES The unusual sound made by the spinning starter will not harm engine or starter. When disconnecting power cord, always disconnect power cord from outlet first; then disconnect switch box on engine.
