The use of 10" round duct or equivalent rectangular duct is acceptable for zero clearance. A Thermador VCHTR10 transitions from the rectangular hood opening to a 10" diameter duct. Verify the installation will have enough clearance for the transition and ducting. A VCH54 with dual filters requires additional clearance above the hood for the PLENUM transition. This transition is shown in Figure 4 (back page) transitioning from the VCH54 to the VCHTR10. For the most efficient ducting layout, use a straight run or as few elbows as possible. COLD WEATHER installations should have a backdraft damper installed to minimize backward flow of cold air, and a nonmetallic thermal break to minimize heat loss due to conduction. The damper should be on the cold air side of the thermal break. The break should be as close as possible to the location where the ducting enters the heated portion of the house. Hood installation height above the cooktop is the user's preference. The lower the filter housings are above the cooktop, the more efficient the capture of cooking odors, grease, and smoke. Thermador recommends installing the hood 30" to 36" above the countertop. The minimum hood installation height is 30". This is the distance from the cooktop to the bottom of the hood not the filter housing. The VTR1400Q and VTR1OOOQ remote blowers require five wire installations.
