Setting Up the TNB iPAQ If you have purchased a Global Positioning System (GPS) enabled TNB iPAQ, follow the setup instructions in the front section of this guide to create a partnership with your personal computer. Verifying Internet Access To verify Internet access on the TNB iPAQ: 1. Visit a web site such as www. google. com or www. yahoo. com. If you do not have an Internet connection and GPRS service, Internet Explorer displays an error message. [. . . ] You will need to enter this information into your TNB iPAQ. Setting Up Proxy Server Settings To set up proxy server settings on your TNB iPAQ: 1. Tap Start > Settings > Connections tab > Connections icon > Tasks tab. Under My Work Network, tap Edit my proxy server > Proxy Settings tab. Tap the This network connects to the Internet and This network uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet check boxes. In the Proxy server box, enter the proxy server address. To change the port number, tap the Advanced button and enter the number in the HTTP proxy port box. Depending on where you are in the program, you may have to tap OK several times to exit. Verifying the Date and Time Verify the correct date and time on your TNB iPAQ. If the date and time are not correct, tap the Clock icon on the Today screen to adjust. Improving GPS Performance To improve GPS connection performance on TNB iPAQ GPS-enabled device(s), you need to download the latest TNB iPAQ Quick GPS Connection data file and check if the TNB iPAQ Quick GPS Connection Utility is enabled so you can receive automatic updates. NOTE You will have better GPS performance if your phone feature is turned on. Even though GPS on your TNB iPAQ is able to connect to the GPS satellites without enabling the Quick GPS Connection Utility, it may take a few minutes longer and even up to five minutes to locate the satellites if you do not use this utility. Depending on your TNB iPAQ model, the default settings on the TNB iPAQ Quick GPS Connection Utility can be set where the device cannot receive automatic updates unless you enable the update feature. Tap Start > Programs > GPS Navigation. Select your preferences such as language, clock display, voice, etc. Once you have completed selecting your preferences, your TNB iPAQ notifies you "No maps found . . . " 3. Internet Explorer automatically launches to start the process of downloading a map. NOTE Make sure you have a connection to the Internet before you try to download a map. If you cannot connect to the Internet, refer to the instructions for Configuring GPS on Your TNB iPAQ. 5 4. Follow the on-screen instructions to download your one free city map. You may either use the Search function to find a map that contains the city of your choice or use the City List function to choose your desired city map from a list of cities. After downloading your one free city map, a GPS Navigation Voucher code appears. Write the code on paper and keep it in a safe place. Use the code to receive a discount when you purchase more maps. [. . . ] A direct line of sight is required between the TNB iPAQ and the GPS satellites to access information from the satellites. In certain situations when using GPS navigation powered by TomTom, the GPS signal strength drops so low that the GPS receiver cannot help you navigate. When this happens, you may see a "spinning" effect in the 3-D view where the screen can rotate up to 180 degrees. To address this situation, tap on the map > Change preferences > Turn off 3D display.
