[. . . ] When you press these hot keys, a dialog box will appear. Continue holding down Fn and press F8 to change the setting. If wireless communication is turned off, Disabled Wireless Communication Switch will be displayed. If no wireless communication device is installed, no dialog box will appear. PORTÉGÉ R200 5-5 The Keyboard Touch Pad: Pressing Fn + F9 in a windows environment enables or disables the Touch Pad function. When you press these hot keys, the current setting will change and be displayed as an icon. LCD screen resolution selection: Press Fn + Space keys to change the LCD screen resolution. Each time when you press these hot keys, the LCD screen resolution changes as follows: With XGA, you can change the resolution between 800 × 600 and 1024 × 768 pixels. TOSHIBA Zooming Utility (reduce): To reduce the icon size on the desktop or the application window, press the 1 key while holding down the Fn key. TOSHIBA Zooming Utility (enlarge): To enlarge the icon size on the desktop or the application window, press the 2 key while holding down the Fn key. Fn Sticky key You can use the TOSHIBA Accessibility Utility to make the Fn key sticky, that is, you can press it once, release it, and then press an "F number" key. To start the TOSHIBA Accessibility Utility, click start, point to All Programs, point to TOSHIBA, point to Utilities and click Accessibility. PORTÉGÉ R200 5-6 The Keyboard Windows special keys The keyboard provides two keys that have special functions in Windows: Windows logo key activates the start menu and the other, the application key, has the same function as the secondary mouse button. This key activates the Windows start menu. This key has the same function as the secondary mouse button. Keypad overlay Your computer's keyboard does not have an independent numeric keypad, but its numeric keypad overlay functions like one. The keys in the centre of the keyboard with gray letters make up the numeric keypad overlay. The overlay provides the same functions as the numeric keypad on the 101/102-key enhanced keyboard. Turning on the overlays The numeric keypad overlay can be used for numeric data input or cursor and page control. Arrow mode To turn on the Arrow mode, press Fn + F10. Now try cursor and page control using the keys shown in the figure below. Press Fn + F10 again to turn off the overlay. PORTÉGÉ R200 5-7 The Keyboard Numeric mode To turn on the Numeric mode, press Fn + F11. Now try numeric data entry using the keys shown in the figure below. Press Fn + F11 again to turn off the overlay. The numeric keypad overlay Temporarily using normal keyboard (overlay on) While using the overlay, you can temporarily access the normal keyboard without turning off the overlay: 1. All keys will operate as if the overlay were off. Type upper-case characters by holding Fn + Shift and pressing a character key. Release Fn to continue using the overlay. Temporarily using overlay (overlay off) While using the normal keyboard, you can temporarily use the keypad overlay without turning it on: 1. Pressing Fn turns on the most recently used overlay. If the Numeric mode indicator lights, you can use the overlay for numeric entry. If the Arrow mode indicator lights, you can use the overlay for cursor and page control. Release Fn to return to normal keyboard operation. PORTÉGÉ R200 5-8 The Keyboard Temporarily changing modes If the computer is in Numeric mode, you can switch temporarily to Arrow mode by pressing a shift key. If the computer is in Arrow mode, you can switch temporarily to Numeric mode by pressing a shift key. Generating ASCII characters Not all ASCII characters can be generated using normal keyboard operation. But, you can generate these characters using their ASCII codes.
