Touch Pad: Pressing Fn + F9 in a windows environment enables or disables the Touch Pad function. When you press these hot keys, the current setting will change and be displayed as an icon. Display resolution selection: Press Fn + space keys to change the display resolution. Each time when you press these hot keys, the display resolution changes. TOSHIBA Zooming Utility (reduce): To reduce the icon size on the desktop or the application window, press the 1 key while holding down the Fn key. TOSHIBA Zooming Utility (enlarge): To enlarge the icon size on the desktop or the application window, press the 2 key while holding down the Fn key. QosmioEngine modes: Pressing Fn + 3 to cycle the QosmioEngine screen mode between Dynamic, Standard or Theater. Refer to the QosmioPlayer section in Chapter 8, Using the Remote Controller for details. User's Manual 5-6 The Keyboard Monitor-in: Pressing Fn + 4 will toggle the monitor mode between Windows and AV Input. In monitor mode, both DVD/CD and Digital Audio indicators are on and the audio button is disabled. Pressing this Hot key when the computer is swithched off will do nothing. Press Fn + 4 to change the aspect ratio in the order: Normal -> Aspect Ratio of 4:3 -> Aspect Ratio of 16:9. Fn Sticky key You can use the TOSHIBA Accessibility Utility to make the Fn key sticky, that is, you can press it once, release it, and then press an "F number" key. To start the TOSHIBA Accessibility Utility, click start, point to All Programs, point to TOSHIBA, point to Utilities and click Accessibility. Windows special keys The keyboard provides two keys that have special functions in Windows: Windows logo key activates the start menu and the other, the application key, has the same function as the secondary mouse button. This key activates the Windows start menu. This key has the same function as the secondary mouse button. Keypad overlay Your computer's keyboard does not have an independent numeric keypad, but its numeric keypad overlay functions like one. The keys in the centre of the keyboard with gray letters make up the numeric keypad overlay. The overlay provides the same functions as the numeric keypad on the 101/102-key enhanced keyboard in the figure below. Turning on the overlays The numeric keypad overlay can be used for numeric data input or cursor and page control. User's Manual 5-7 The Keyboard Arrow mode To turn on the Arrow mode, press Fn + F10. Now try cursor and page control using the keys shown in the figure below. Press Fn + F10 again to turn off the overlay. Numeric mode To turn on the Numeric mode, press Fn + F11. Now try numeric data entry using the keys in the figure below. Press Fn + F11 again to turn off the overlay. The numeric keypad overlay Temporarily using normal keyboard (overlay on) While using the overlay, you can temporarily access the normal keyboard without turning off the overlay: 1. All keys will operate as if the overlay were off. Type upper-case characters by holding Fn + Shift and pressing a character key. Release Fn to continue using the overlay. User's Manual 5-8 The Keyboard Temporarily using overlay (overlay off) While using the normal keyboard, you can temporarily use the keypad overlay without turning it on: 1. Pressing Fn turns on the most recently used overlay. If the Numeric mode indicator lights, you can use the overlay for numeric entry. If the Arrow mode indicator lights, you can use the overlay for cursor and page control. Release Fn to return to normal keyboard operation. Temporarily changing modes If the computer is in Numeric mode, you can switch temporarily to Arrow mode by pressing a shift key. If the computer is in Arrow mode, you can switch temporarily to Numeric mode by pressing a shift key. Generating ASCII characters Not all ASCII characters can be generated using normal keyboard operation.
