[. . . ] The WWFC improves air quality by providing for better emissions in vehicle fleets, and customer satisfaction through better vehicle performance. NOTICE z Do not use gasohol other than stated above. It will cause fuel system damage or vehicle performance problems. z If driveability problems occur (poor hot starting, vaporizing, engine knock, etc. ), discontinue the use. 261 '06 MR2_U (L/O 0508) Fuel pump shut off system z Take care not to spill gasohol during refueling. FUEL TANK CAPACITY 70 L (18. 5 gal. , 15. 4 Imp. gal. ) The fuel pump shut off system stops supplying fuel to the engine to minimize the risk of fuel leakage when the engine stalls or an airbag inflates upon collision. To restart the engine after the fuel pump shut off system activates, set the ignition switch to ACC or off once and start it. Operation in foreign countries If you plan to drive your Toyota in another country. . . First, comply with the vehicle registration laws. Second, confirm the availability of the correct fuel (unleaded and minimum octane number). CAUTION Inspect the ground under the vehicle before restarting the engine. If you find that liquid has leaked onto the ground, it is the fuel system has been damaged and it is in need of repair. In this case, do not restart the engine. 262 '06 MR2_U (L/O 0508) Three- way catalytic converters NOTICE A large amount of unburned gases flowing into the three- way catalytic converter may cause it to overheat and create a fire hazard. To prevent this and other damage, observe the following precautions: z Use only unleaded gasoline. This oil as well as some part of the oil film left on the cylinder wall is burned by the high temperature combustion gases during the combustion process. : Do not run the engine in a garage or enclosed area except for the time needed to drive the vehicle in or out. The exhaust gases cannot escape, making this a particularly dangerous situation. : Do not remain for a long time in a parked vehicle with the engine running. If it is unavoidable, however, do so only in an unconfined area and adjust the heating or cooling system to force outside air into the vehicle. 264 '06 MR2_U (L/O 0508) : Oil is also used to lubricate the stems of the intake valves. Some of this oil is sucked into the combustion chamber together with the intake air and is burned along with the fuel. High temperature exhaust gases also burn the oil used to lubricate the exhaust valve stems. The amount of engine oil consumed depends on the viscosity of the oil, the quality of the oil and the conditions the vehicle is driven under. More oil is consumed by high- speed driving and frequent acceleration and deceleration. A new engine consumes more oil, since its pistons, piston rings and cylinder walls have not become conditioned. 1. 0 L per 1000 km (1. 1 qt. /600 miles, 0. 9 Imp. qt. /600 miles) When judging the amount of oil consumption, note the that oil may become diluted and make it difficult to judge the true level accurately. As an example, if a vehicle is used for repeated short trips, and consumes a normal amount of oil, the dipstick may not show any drop in the oil level at all, even after 1000 km (600 miles) or more. This is because the oil is gradually becoming diluted with fuel or moisture, making it appear that the oil level has not changed. [. . . ] 3) Inspect thickness measurement and disc runout. 4) See page 21 for details. 2006 Avalon 35, 000 Miles - 42 Months q Replace engine oil and oil filter1 q Rotate tires q Visually inspect brake linings/drums and brake pads/discs Additional Maintenance Items for Special Operating Conditions: Driving While Towing q Tighten nuts and bolts on chassis Driving in Desert or On Dirt Roads q Inspect ball joints and dust covers q Inspect drive shaft boots q Inspect engine air filter q Inspect steering linkage and boots q Tighten nuts and bolts on chassis Applicable Footnotes: 1) Reset the oil replacement reminder ("MAINT REQD") light after replacing engine oil. 2006 Avalon 40, 000 Miles - 48 Months q Replace engine oil and oil filter1 q Rotate tires q Visually inspect brake linings/drums and brake pads/discs Additional Maintenance Items for Special Operating Conditions: Driving While Towing q Tighten nuts and bolts on chassis Driving in Desert or On Dirt Roads q Inspect ball joints and dust covers q Inspect drive shaft boots q Inspect engine air filter q Inspect steering linkage and boots q Tighten nuts and bolts on chassis Applicable Footnotes: 1) Reset the oil replacement reminder ("MAINT REQD") light after replacing engine oil. 2006 Avalon 45, 000 Miles - 54 Months q q q q q Replace engine oil and oil filter1 Rotate tires Clean cabin air filter Visually inspect brake linings/drums and brake pads/discs Inspect the following: __ Ball joints and dust covers __ Brake lines and hoses __ Drive shaft boots __ Engine coolant3 __ Exhaust pipes and mountings __ Steering gear box __ Steering linkage and boots Note: Driving in heavy traffic, on dirt roads or in urban, dusty or desert areas may shorten the life of the cabin air filter. Replacement may be needed if you notice reduced airflow from the air conditioner and heater or if the windows fog easily when you use the "Fresh" mode. Consult your dealer if any of these conditions occur. [. . . ]
