Manual abstract: user guide WA KATES MODELS A THRU C

Detailed instructions for use are in the User's Guide.

[. . . ] All controllers are constructed substantially, but pipe supports should be located so that the controller is not subject to mechanical load due to piping, or to the expansion or contraction of piping. The controller should be installed at a point in the pipe where it will be completely filled with liquid under all conditions of operation. The preferred axis of the controller is vertical, with the bonnet up. INLET IS AT SIDE and outlet connection is at bottom. [. . . ] CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE CONTROLLER IS RELIEVED OF PRESSURE BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO SERVICE OR CLEAN. TO CLEAN CONTROLLER CAUTION: in all cleaning operations, be very careful not to scratch, nick or mark any surfaces or edges. The controller operates by downward flowing liquid and is self cleaning for most liquids. Downflow design also will allow drainage on shutdown of many systems if discharge shutoff valve is closed after inlet shutoff valve. It is not necessary to remove the controller from the line to clean. If installation includes proper shutoff and bypass valves, operate these and take controller off stream or control. Arrange a clean area where internal parts can be placed and kept free of dirt. Remove bonnet bolts, lift bonnet assembly straight up, remove body O-ring, and place both in the clean area. Lift out the orifice sleeve with piston assembly and place in the clean area. Remove the orifice cylinder clamp screws, then lift out the orifice cylinder, and place in the clean area. Remove the valve sleeve and spring and place in the clean area. Valve tube is now exposed and can usually be cleaned in place. If removal is necessary, use a 7/8" deep socket wrench. Thoroughly clean all parts that have been removed from the controller by immersing them in a suitable solvent. Clean and flush inside of flow controller body and the valve tube with the solvent, and drain. Because of the small size of the orifice slot and the closely fitted parts, it is VERY IMPORTANT that all parts and surfaces, especially the orifice slot and valve ports, be COMPLETELY CLEAN, and that any dirt, sediment, coating or gummy residue must be completely removed. Wipe all parts and surfaces dry with a clean, lint-free cloth. If the valve tube was removed, replace insuring that it seats correctly, and is central in the controller body. Install the spring insuring that it seats properly. Replace the valve sleeve making sure that it slides freely up and down the valve tube with no sticking. Replace orifice cylinder, insuring that it seats firmly in the body. Replace orifice sleeve, and make sure that it turns freely in both directions until it hits the vertical stop pin. Install the piston with the push rod down. [. . . ] Replace the bonnet, and place the controller in service by following Steps 2-7 listed under the heading "START UP PROCEDURE". 7.
