The UltraVoice UMA TA interfaces with the UMA Network Controller (UNC) over an IP broadband network (aka Generic Access Network, or GAN). It establishes secured Access Stratum (AS) connections using IPSec for reliable transport of Non-Access Stratum (NAS) user- and control-plane traffic. The UltraVoice UMA TA ensures QoS for voice traffic. The UNC interfaces with the mobile circuit-switched (using A or IuCS) and packet-switched (using Gb or IuPS) core networks. The UltraVoice UMA TA interfaces with the Mobile Switching Center (MSC) using GSM Non-Access Stratum signaling to establish calls on the mobile core network. The UltraVoice UMA TA houses and reads a SIM card for subscriber identification to the mobile core.
