[. . . ] Networked HomeLife Solutions Home Zone Service for Mobile Operators using Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA) networks Here's the Problem With the deployment of Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA) networks, mobile service providers are capturing an opportunity to keep their subscribers on the line while at home, increase average revenue per user (ARPU), and offer great pricing plans to win new customers. But they face significant challenges in delivering high-quality voice service over broadband networks and home networks over which they have no control. · Voice calls have no guarantees with retail and unspecified WLAN routers. [. . . ] The VersaLink 7501 guarantees QoS for voice traffic, and provides reliable high-performance wireless-to-wireline transport to any broadband network: DSL, cable, fiber. The UMA Network Controller (UNC) manages the access stratum connections to the handset. It interfaces with the mobile core network using A or IuCS for circuit-switched, and Gb or IuPS for packet-switched, to provide reliable transport of nonaccess stratum (NAS) user- and control-plane traffic. The mobile core network delivers services to the subscriber handset over the UMA access network in the same way as it does over the Radio Access Network. It uses the same Home Subscriber Server (HSS) or Home Location Registry (HLR) for maintaining subscriber profiles. The mobile core network's Mobile Switching Center (MSC) manages call control and transport of voice calls to the PSTN or PLMN. UMA benefits · Maximize wireless coverage by using WLAN access points in the home · Reduce costs: - Optimize licensed spectrum and offload traffic from cellular network - Use existing broadband network for backhaul. · Deliver complete service transparency between the cellular and the home networks Home Zone Service for Mobile Operators using Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA) networks Application Note Here are the Advantages The VersaLink 7501 enables deployment with minimal user involvement. . . . · The VersaLink 7501 connects to any broadband device with an Ethernet cable. It automatically detects a routed IP or PPPoE WAN and configures itself. · Customizable wireless push button configuration and a 2nd dedicated SSID for handsets enable automatic pairing of approved devices with WEP, WPA, or WPA2 security. Handsets may be pre-provisioned with 7501 SSID and security key, or easily paired with push-button or PIN setup. · TR-069 support and remote GUI capabilities enable a truly managed solution. The service provider can remotely troubleshoot and configure the 7501 and run diagnostics. then ensures high-quality voice service is delivered for handsets: · On uplink traffic: As handsets send packets over the WLAN simultaneous with other WLAN clients sending packets (e. g. , bandwidth hogs like file transfers or gaming apps), handset packets are marked with WMM voice tags. They are prioritized and routed to the broadband connection first. · On downlink traffic: Unlike common routers, the 7501 can remark WAN-to-LAN packets based on specific settings such as IP address, port range, or DSCP. [. . . ] Packets are sent in shorter time intervals, allowing the handset to remain in low-power states longer. This extends the battery life by 3-4 times. Corporate Headquarters Westell, Inc.
