Otherwise, water can run into the cylinder, causing damage. w Be sure all people are clear of the outboard motor when adjusting the tilt angle, also be careful not to pinch any body parts between the drive unit and engine bracket. w Leaking fuel is a fire hazard. Disconnect the fuel line if the engine will be tilted for more than a few minutes. (If the fuel connector is provided on the motor. ) 3-22 E EMU00290 PROCEDURE FOR TILTING UP 1) 2) Place the gear shift lever in Neutral. Remove the fuel line connection from the motor. 304013 3) Place the tilt lock lever in the release position. 402015 4) 5) Hold the rear of the top cowling with one hand and fully tilt the engine up. The tilt support bar turns to the locked position automatically. 403013 EMU00300 PROCEDURE FOR TILTING DOWN 1) 2) 3) 403012 Place the tilt lock lever in the lock position. Slightly tilt up the engine until the tilt support bar is released automatically. Tilt down the engine. 3-23 E EMH60010 CRUISING IN OTHER CONDITIONS CRUISING IN SALT WATER After operating in salt water, wash out the cooling-water passages with fresh water to prevent them from becoming cloggedup with salt deposits. NOTE: Refer to cooling system flushing instructions in "TRANSPORTING AND STORING OUTBOARD MOTOR". Fill the tank with fresh water to above the level of the anti-cavitation plate. Remove the cap a for fogging on the silencer cover. Run the engine at a fast idle for 10~15 minutes. Just prior to turning off the engine, quickly spray "Yamaha Stor-Rite Engine Fogging Oil" (Part No. LUBSTRRT-12-00) into the silencer cover. When properly done, the engine will smoke excessively and almost stall. Grease the spark plug threads and reinstall the spark plugs and torque to proper specification. (Refer to the Periodic Maintenance section, "Cleanning and adjusting spark plug. "). 2) Turn the engine over with the stop lanyard disconnected to work the fogging oil into the piston rings. (Refer to the Periodic Maintenance section, "Changing gear oil. ").
