G ECM00810 CAUTION: G G G G Avoid using any oil other than the specified type. Use a thoroughly blended fuel-oil mixture. If the mixture is not thoroughly mixed, or if the mixing ratio is incorrect, the following problems could occur. Low oil ratio: Lack of oil could cause major engine trouble, such as piston seizure. High oil ratio: Too much oil could cause fouled spark plugs, smoky exhaust, and heavy carbon deposits. 1. NOTE: If using a permanently installed tank, pour the oil gradually as the gasoline is being added to the tank. EMU27450 ZMU02022 2. Operating engine EMU27461 If there is a fuel joint on the motor, firmly connect the fuel line to the joint. Then firmly connect the other end of the fuel line to the joint on the fuel tank. Be sure there are no swimmers in the water near you. When the air vent screw is loosened, gasoline vapor will be released. After the engine starts, return the throttle to the fully closed position. NOTE: The start-in-gear protection device prevents the engine from starting except when in neutral. Attach the engine stop switch lanyard to a secure place on your clothing, or your arm or leg. Then install the lock plate on the other end of the lanyard into the engine stop switch. ZMU02959 EWM00120 4. WARNING G G G Attach the engine stop switch lanyard to a secure place on your clothing, or your arm or leg while operating. Do not attach the lanyard to clothing that could tear loose. Do not route the lanyard where it could become entangled, preventing it from functioning. Avoid accidentally pulling the lanyard during normal operation. Loss of engine power means the loss of most steering control. Also, without engine power, the boat could slow rapidly. This could cause people and objects in the boat to be thrown forward. Pull out / turn the choke knob fully. After the engine starts, replace / return the knob to the home position. ZMU04116 NOTE: G It is not necessary to use the choke when starting a warm engine. 28 Operation G If the choke knob is left in the " " (start) position while the engine is running, the engine will run poorly or stall. Push the starter button to start the motor. [. . . ] Do not touch the flywheel or other moving parts when the engine is running. Do not install the starter mechanism or top cowling after the engine is running. Do not touch the ignition coil, spark plug wire, spark plug cap, or other electrical components when starting or operating the motor. You could get an electrical shock.
