WARNING Failure to follow WARNING instructions could result in severe injury or death to the machine operator, a bystander, or a person inspecting or repairing the boat. CAUTION: A CAUTION indicates special precautions that must be taken to avoid damage to the boat. [. . . ] Storing In the Fully Collapsed Position 1) Follow the steps for storing in the upright position. 2) Remove the snap pins holding the rear support poles to the mounting brackets. 3) Lower the top onto the rear deck/hatch. 3-12 OPERATION OPERATION STARTING THE ENGINES WARNING SEVERE INJURY OR DEATH MAY RESULT IF YOU IGNORE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING: Before operating your boat, become familiar with all controls. Consult your Yamaha dealer about any control or function you do not fully understand. Attach the engine shut-off switch cord to your personal flotation device before operating. Failure to attach cord could result in a runaway boat if operator is ejected. Check throttle, shift, and steering for proper operation before starting the engine. Shift into Neutral before starting engines. Never start the engine or let it run any length of time in an enclosed area. Exhaust fumes contain carbon monoxide, a colorless, odorless gas that may cause loss of consciousness and death within a short time. Always operate the boat in an open area. 3 FT (90 CM) 3 1) Always make sure the boat is launched and used in waters that are free from weeds and debris, and at least 3 ft. Severe engine damage could result because water can flood the non-operating engine through the cooling water intake. If single-engine operation is unavoidable, operate the boat at a "no wake" speed only. 3-15 3 OPERATION BREAK-IN PROCEDURE The engine break-in period is essential to allow the various components of the engine to wear and polish themselves to the correct operating clearances. This ensures proper performance and promotes longer component life. 1) Launch the boat and start the engine (See page 3-13). 2) For the first 5 minutes, run the engine at trolling speed. For the 30 minutes of operation after that, keep the engine speed below 5, 000 rpm. For the hour of operation after that, keep the engine speed below 8, 000 rpm. 3) Proceed with normal operation. 3-16 OPERATION DRIVING YOUR BOAT GETTING TO KNOW YOUR BOAT Operating your boat requires skills acquired through practice over a period of time. Take the time to learn the basic techniques well before attempting more difficult maneuvers. Boating with your new boat can be a very enjoyable activity, providing you with hours of pleasure. But it is essential to familiarize yourself with the operation of the boat to achieve the skill necessary to enjoy boating safely.
