[. . . ] OWNER'S MANUAL FZS10V FZS10VC LIT-11626-19-79 3C3-28199-10 EAU10041 INTRODUCTION EAU10080 Congratulations on your purchase of the Yamaha FZS10V/FZS10VC. This model is the result of Yamaha's vast experience in the production of fine sporting, touring, and pacesetting racing machines. It represents the high degree of craftsmanship and reliability that have made Yamaha a leader in these fields. This manual will give you an understanding of the operation, inspection, and basic maintenance of this motorcycle. [. . . ] Refer to this section each time a panel needs to be removed and installed. 1. Panel C EAU40030 Panels A and B To remove one of the panels Remove the bolts and the screws, and then pull the panel off as shown. 1. Panel B To install the panel Place the panel in the original position, and then install the screws and the bolts. EAU19272 6 Panel C To remove the panel Remove the screw, and then pull outward on the areas shown. 1. Screw 6-8 PERIODIC MAINTENANCE AND MINOR REPAIR EAU19651 Checking the spark plugs The spark plugs are important engine components, which should be checked periodically, preferably by a Yamaha dealer. Since heat and deposits will cause any spark plug to slowly erode, they should be removed and checked in accordance with the periodic maintenance and lubrication chart. In addition, the condition of the spark plugs can reveal the condition of the engine. The porcelain insulator around the center electrode of each spark plug should be a medium-to-light tan (the ideal color when the vehicle is ridden normally), and all spark plugs installed in the engine should have the same color. If any spark plug shows a distinctly different color, the engine could be defective. Do not attempt to diagnose such problems yourself. Instead, have a Yamaha dealer check the vehicle. If a spark plug shows signs of electrode erosion and excessive carbon or other deposits, it should be replaced. Specified spark plug: NGK/CR9EK 6-9 Before installing a spark plug, the spark plug gap should be measured with a wire thickness gauge and, if necessary, adjusted to specification. 1. Screw To install the panel Place the panel in the original position, and then install the screw. 1. Spark plug gap Spark plug gap: 0. 60. 7 mm (0. 0240. 028 in) 6 Clean the surface of the spark plug gasket and its mating surface, and then wipe off any grime from the spark plug threads. Tightening torque: Spark plug: 12. 5 Nm (1. 25 m·kgf, 9. 0 ft·lbf) PERIODIC MAINTENANCE AND MINOR REPAIR EAU19681 EAU19871 NOTE: If a torque wrench is not available when installing a spark plug, a good estimate of the correct torque is 1/41/2 turn past finger tight. However, the spark plug should be tightened to the specified torque as soon as possible. ECA10840 Canister (for California only) Engine oil and oil filter cartridge The engine oil level should be checked before each ride. In addition, the oil must be changed and the oil filter cartridge replaced at the intervals specified in the periodic maintenance and lubrication chart. NOTE: Make sure that the vehicle is positioned straight up when checking the oil level. A slight tilt to the side can result in a false reading. Start the engine, warm it up for several minutes, and then turn it off. Wait a few minutes until the oil settles, and then check the oil level through the check window located at the bottom-right side of the crankcase. CAUTION: Do not use any tools to remove or install the spark plug cap, otherwise the ignition coil coupler may get damaged. The spark plug cap may be difficult to remove because the rubber seal on the end of the cap fits tightly. To remove the spark plug cap, simply twist it back and forth while pulling it out; to install it, twist it back and forth while pushing it in. This model is equipped with a canister to prevent the discharging of fuel vapor into the atmosphere.
