[. . . ] OWNER'S MANUAL FZS1000 FZS1000S 1C2-28199-EA INTRODUCTION EAU10100 Welcome to the Yamaha world of motorcycling!As the owner of the FZS1000/FZS1000S, you are benefiting from Yamaha's vast experience and newest technology regarding the design and manufacture of high-quality products, which have earned Yamaha a reputation for dependability. Please take the time to read this manual thoroughly, so as to enjoy all advantages of your FZS1000/FZS1000S. The owner's manual does not only instruct you in how to operate, inspect and maintain your motorcycle, but also in how to safeguard yourself and others from trouble and injury. [. . . ] Wait a few minutes until the oil settles, and then check the oil level through the check window located at the bottom-right side of the crankcase. To install a spark plug 1. Measure the spark plug gap with a wire thickness gauge and, if necessary, adjust the gap to specification. NOTE: If a torque wrench is not available when installing a spark plug, a good estimate of the correct torque is 1/4­1/2 turn past finger tight. However, the spark plug should be tightened to the specified torque as soon as possible. Spark plug gap Spark plug gap: 0. 7­0. 8 mm (0. 028­0. 031 in) 6-8 PERIODIC MAINTENANCE AND MINOR REPAIR NOTE: The engine oil should be between the minimum and maximum level marks. Place an oil pan under the engine to collect the used oil. Remove the engine oil filler cap and drain bolt to drain the oil from the crankcase. 1. 4. Engine oil filler cap Engine oil level check window Maximum level mark Minimum level mark 1. Engine oil drain bolt NOTE: An oil filter wrench is available at a Yamaha dealer. Apply a thin coat of engine oil to the O-ring of the new oil filter cartridge. 4. If the engine oil is below the minimum level mark, add sufficient oil of the recommended type to raise it to the correct level. To change the engine oil (with or without oil filter cartridge replacement) 1. Start the engine, warm it up for several minutes, and then turn it off. NOTE: G Skip steps 4­6 if the oil filter cartridge is not being replaced. G When draining the engine oil, use a funnel or similar device to keep the oil away from the exhaust pipe. Remove the oil filter cartridge with an oil filter wrench. 6-9 PERIODIC MAINTENANCE AND MINOR REPAIR Recommended engine oil: See page 8-1. Oil quantity: Without oil filter cartridge replacement: 2. 80 L (2. 96 US qt) (2. 46 Imp. qt) With oil filter cartridge replacement: 3. 00 L (3. 17 US qt) (2. 64 Imp. qt) ECA11620 1. Torque wrench CAUTION: G NOTE: Make sure that the O-ring is properly seated. Install the new oil filter cartridge with an oil filter wrench, and then tighten it to the specified torque with a torque wrench. Tightening torque: Oil filter cartridge: 17 Nm (1. 7 m·kgf, 12 ft·lbf) 7. Install the engine oil drain bolt, and then tighten it to the specified torque. Tightening torque: Engine oil drain bolt: 43 Nm (4. 3 m·kgf, 31 ft·lbf) G In order to prevent clutch slippage (since the engine oil also lubricates the clutch), do not mix any chemical additives. Do not use oils with a diesel specification of "CD" or oils of a higher quality than specified. In addition, do not use oils labeled "ENERGY CONSERVING II" or higher. Make sure that no foreign material enters the crankcase. 6 8. Add the specified amount of the recommended engine oil, and then install and tighten the oil filler cap. 9.
