[. . . ] INTRODUCTION Thank you for purchasing the Yamaha Sound Edge--a high quality sound card with on-board musical instrument sounds and digital effects bundled with a number of software applications with the power to turn your IBM PC/AT compatible personal computer into a high fidelity multimedia center. Sound Edge gives you enormous multimedia potential that will add an entirely new dimension to your computer, including direct access to the wide world of music, stereo digital sound recording and playback, and much more. In addition to extremely high fidelity musical instrument sounds, including an "AWM" wave table of real musical instruments sampled with Yamaha's Advanced Wave Memory technology, plus a wide selection of "FM" voices generated by Yamaha's world-famous Frequency Modulation synthesizer technology, the Sound Edge lets you play multiple wave data on a musical scale using a sequencer. The sound card also features the high quality "DSP" (Yamaha's unique effect processor) which gives you great control over the sound. Sound Edge Application Software Reading Wave Files You can read wave files recorded by other application software and files of previously created material, and you can edit the waveforms. SampleEdit can handle the following three types of files, but only files that have the . WAV or . OPL file extension can be read and used for waveform editing. . WAV (Waveform Audio): The standard format for digital audio files used in Windows. . OPL (OPL Waveform Audio): The wave file format to which has been edited and added the parameters of the internal tone generator(OPL4). . OMP (OPL Download Map): The file format with the . OPL files assigned and listed in the Mapping window. For details on . OPL files, see page 60. £SampleEdit is compatible with the following wave data: 8 or 16 bit; 11. 015, 22. 050, or 44. 1 kHz sampling; monaural. If the wave file that was read is a stereo sample, only the left-channel data is read and displayed. Reading Procedure 1. The File Selection dialog box appears. 52 2. When a . WAV file or . OPL file is read, the waveform editing window is displayed in the work area and a waveform is displayed. £When a . WAV file is read, actually a new .
