IMPORTANT MANUAL INFORMATION: Inthismanual, informationofparticular importance is distinguished in the followingways: TheSafetyAlertSymbolmeans ATTENTION!BECOMEALERT! [. . . ] Install the cord clip onto the engine shut-off switch by pushing the clip groove over the nut beneaththeknob. Besurethecord is not wrapped around the steering wheelortangledinthecontrols. 3) PutthecontrolleversintheNeutral position. Turntheignitionkeyofone engine to "Start. " When the engine starts, release the key. Repeat for theotherengine. 3-14 OPERATION CAUTION: Never turn the ignition key to "Start" while the engine is running. Do not keep the starter motor running for more than 5 seconds. If the engine does not start after 5 seconds of cranking, release the starter button. Wait at least 15 seconds before trying to start the engine again. If the starter motor is engaged continuously for more than 5 seconds, the battery will be quickly discharged, and it will be impossible to start the engine. The starter motor may also be damaged if it is engaged continuously for more than 5 seconds. NOTE: l Be sure the shift lever is put in the Neutralpositionorthestartermotor willnotoperate. l On this boat, the engines are connected directly to the drive unit. Starting either engine generates some thrust immediately. Only enough throttle should be applied tokeeptheengineatafastenough idletostayrunning. WARNING 3 STOPPING THE ENGINES To stop the engine, return the throttle leverstotheidleposition, thenturnthe mainswitchesto"Off. "Theenginescan also be stopped by pulling the engine stopswitchlanyard. Once the engines have stopped, you have NO STEERING CONTROL over the boat. You could collide with another boat, a dock, or other obstacle. NOTE: l Remove the ignition keys and the engine stop switch lanyard if the boatwillbeleftunattended. l Stopping the engines immediately after operating at high rpm is not recommended. Lettheenginescool off at idle or low speed for a few minutesfirst. CAUTION: Do not operate the boat with just one engine running. Severe engine damage could result because water can flood the non-operating engine through the cooling water intake. If single-engine operation is unavoidable, operate the boat at a "no wake" speed only. 3-15 3 OPERATION BREAK-IN PROCEDURE Theenginebreak-inperiodisessential toallowthevariouscomponentsofthe engine to wear and polish themselves to the correct operating clearances. This ensures proper performance and promoteslongercomponentlife. 1) Launchtheboatandstarttheengine (seepage3-13). 2) For the first 5 minutes, run the engineattrollingspeed. Forthe30 minutesofoperationafterthat, keep theenginespeedbelow5, 000rpm. Forthehourofoperationafterthat, keeptheenginespeedbelow8, 000 rpm. 3) Proceedwithnormaloperation. 3-16 OPERATION DRIVING YOUR BOAT GETTING TO KNOW YOUR BOAT Operating your boat requires skills acquiredthroughpracticeoveraperiod oftime. Takethetimetolearnthebasic techniqueswellbeforeattemptingmore difficultmaneuvers. Boating with your new boat can be a very enjoyable activity, providing you with hours of pleasure.
