G Yamaha continually seeks advancements in product design and quality. [. . . ] Install the engine oil drain bolt, and then tighten it to the specified torque. Install the engine oil filter element drain bolt, and then tighten it to the specified torque. Tightening torques: Engine oil drain bolt: 20 Nm (2. 0 m·kgf, 14. 5 ft·lbf) Oil filter element drain bolt: 10 Nm (1. 0 m·kgf, 7. 2 ft·lbf) Tightening torque: Oil filter element cover bolt: 10 Nm (1. 0 m·kgf, 7. 2 ft·lbf) Recommended oil: See page 8-1. Oil quantity: Without oil filter element replacement: 1. 10 L (1. 16 US qt) (0. 97 Imp. qt) With oil filter element replacement: 1. 20 L (1. 27 US qt) (1. 06 Imp. qt) ECA11620 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 1. Check the O-rings for damage and replace them if necessary. Clean the oil filter element with solvent, and then install it. NOTE: Check the oil filter element for damage and replace it if necessary. Install the oil filter element cover by installing the bolts, then tightening them to the specified torque. 12. Add the specified amount of the recommended engine oil, and then install and tighten the oil filler cap. CAUTION: G In order to prevent clutch slippage (since the engine oil also lubricates the clutch), do not mix any chemical additives. Do not use oils with a diesel specification of "CD" or oils of a higher quality than specified. In addition, do not use oils labeled "ENERGY CONSERVING II" or higher. G Make sure that no foreign material enters the crankcase. NOTE: Make sure to align the bolt holes when inserting the tailpipe. Start the engine and rev it approximately twenty times while momentarily creating exhaust system back pressure using a shop towel to block the end of the muffler. Stop the engine and allow the exhaust pipe to cool. Install the purging bolt and tighten it. 2. Tap the tailpipe lightly, and then use a wire brush to remove any carbon deposits from the spark arrester portion of the tailpipe. 6-13 PERIODIC MAINTENANCE AND MINOR REPAIR EAU21260 EAU21380 EAU21400 Adjusting the carburetor The carburetor is an important part of the engine and requires very sophisticated adjustment. Therefore, most carburetor adjustments should be left to a Yamaha dealer, who has the necessary professional knowledge and experience. However, the following may be serviced by the owner as part of routine maintenance. ECA10550 Adjusting the throttle cable free play Adjusting the valve clearance The valve clearance changes with use, resulting in improper air-fuel mixture and/or engine noise. To prevent this from occurring, the valve clearance must be adjusted by a Yamaha dealer at the intervals specified in the periodic maintenance and lubrication chart. 2 3 4 1 CAUTION: The carburetor has been set and extensively tested at the Yamaha factory. Changing these settings without sufficient technical knowledge may result in poor performance of or damage to the engine. 1. Throttle cable free play The throttle cable free play should measure 3. 0­5. 0 mm (0. 12­0. 20 in) at the throttle grip.
