[. . . ] In addition, the oil must be changed and the oil filter element cleaned at the intervals specified in the General periodic maintenance and lubrication chart. Place the machine on a level surface and hold it in an upright position. NOTE: Make sure that the machine is positioned straight up when checking the oil level. A slight tilt to the side can result in a false reading. Start the engine, warm it up for several minutes, and then turn it off. 1. Wait a few minutes until the oil settles, and then check the oil level through the check window located at the bottom-right side of the crankcase. NOTE: The engine oil should be between the minimum and maximum level marks. If the engine oil is below the minimum level mark, add sufficient oil of the recommended type to raise it to the correct level. 6 6-8 PERIODIC MAINTENANCE AND MINOR REPAIR 3 2 1 1 1 1. Start the engine, warm it up for several minutes, and then turn it off. If no oil comes out after one minute, turn the engine off immediately so it will not seize. If this occurs, have a Yamaha dealer repair the vehicle. 8 After checking the oil pressure, tighten the bleed bolt to the specified torque. Holding clip (×3) EAU03602 Cleaning the air filter element The air filter element should be cleaned at the intervals specified in the periodic maintenance and lubrication chart. Clean the air filter element more frequently if you are riding in unusually wet or dusty areas. (See page 6-6 for panel removal and installation procedures. ) 2. Remove the air filter case cover by removing the holding clips. 1. Pull the air filter element out of the air filter case. Remove the sponge material from the air filter element frame. 5. Clean the sponge material with solvent, and then squeeze the remaining solvent out. [. . . ] Lubricate all control cables and the pivoting points of all levers and pedals as well as of the sidestand/centerstand. Check and, if necessary, correct the tire air pressure, and then lift the machine so that both of its wheels are off the ground. Alternatively, turn the wheels a little every month in order to prevent the tires from becoming degraded in one spot. Cover the muffler outlet with a plastic bag to prevent moisture from entering it.
