[. . . ] 9 Check ventilation hose for cracks or damage and drain any deposits. 9 Check engine idling speed and starter operation. 9 Check oil level and vehicle for oil leakage. 9 Check operation, fluid level and vehicle for fluid leakage. (See NOTE on page 6-4. ) 9 Correct accordingly. 9 Check balance, runout, spoke tightness and for damage. 9 Tighten spokes and rebalance, replace if necessary. 9 9 9 9 Check tread depth and for damage. NOTE: If the spark plug shows a distinctly different color, the engine could be defective. Do not attempt to diagnose such problems yourself. Instead, have a Yamaha dealer check the machine. Check the spark plug for electrode erosion and excessive carbon or other deposits, and replace it if necessary. Specified spark plug: CR9E (NGK) or U27ESR-N (DENSO) 1 a 1. Remove the spark plug as shown, with the spark plug wrench included in the owner's tool kit. To install the spark plug 1. Measure the spark plug gap with a wire thickness gauge and, if necessary, adjust the gap to specification. Spark plug gap: 0. 7­0. 8 mm (0. 028­0. 031 in) 2. Clean the surface of the spark plug gasket and its mating surface, and then wipe off any grime from the spark plug threads. 6-7 PERIODIC MAINTENANCE AND MINOR REPAIR 3. Install the spark plug with the spark plug wrench, and then tighten it to the specified torque. Tightening torque: Spark plug: 12. 5 Nm (1. 25 m0kgf, 9. 0 ft0lb) NOTE: If a torque wrench is not available when installing a spark plug, a good estimate of the correct torque is 1/4­1/2 turn past finger tight. Remove the spark plug cap from the spark plug, and then install the spark plug and the spark plug cap. w EWA00003 To prevent damage or injury from sparking, make sure to ground the spark plug electrodes while turning the engine over. 7 7-4 MACHINE CARE AND STORAGE 6. Lubricate all control cables and the pivoting points of all levers and pedals as well as of the sidestand/centerstand. Check and, if necessary, correct the tire air pressure, and then lift the machine so that both of its wheels are off the ground. [. . . ]
