Vital components can start to deteriorate quickly and unexpectedly, even if the vehicle remains unused (for example, as a result of exposure to the elements). Any damage, fluid leakage or loss of tire air pressure could have serious consequences. Therefore, it is very important, in addition to a thorough visual inspection, to check the following points before each ride. For this reason, you should read the following material carefully. Since the engine is brand new, do not put an excessive load on it for the first 1, 000 km (600 mi). The various parts in the engine wear and polish themselves to the correct operating clearances. [. . . ] Remove the spark plug cap from the spark plug, and then install the spark plug and the spark plug cap. cC ECA00015 7 8 Storing the scooter in a poorly ventilated room or covering it with a tarp, while it is still wet, will allow water and humidity to seep in and cause rust. 8 To prevent corrosion, avoid damp cellars, stables (because of the presence of ammonia) and areas where strong chemicals are stored. w EWA00003 To prevent damage or injury from sparking, make sure to ground the spark plug electrodes while turning the engine over. 7-4 SCOOTER CARE AND STORAGE 5. Lubricate all control cables and the pivoting points of all levers and pedals as well as of the sidestand/centerstand. Check and, if necessary, correct the tire air pressure, and then lift the scooter so that both of its wheels are off the ground. [. . . ]
