[. . . ] OWNER'S MANUAL XV250P XV250PC LIT-11626-15-02 2UJ-28199-1A EAU03438 EAU00002 INTRODUCTION Congratulations on your purchase of the Yamaha XV250/XV250C. This model is the result of Yamaha's vast experience in the production of fine sporting, touring, and pacesetting racing machines. It represents the high degree of craftsmanship and reliability that have made Yamaha a leader in these fields. This manual will give you an understanding of the operation, inspection, and basic maintenance of this motorcycle. [. . . ] Check the brake fluid level regularly and fill as required. · Replace the oil seals on the inner parts of the master cylinder and caliper cylinder every two years. · Replace the brake hoses every four years or if cracked or damaged. @ @ 6-5 PERIODIC MAINTENANCE AND MINOR REPAIR NOTE: If any spark plug shows a distinctly different color, the engine could be defective. Do not attempt to diagnose such problems yourself. Instead, have a Yamaha dealer check the motorcycle. @ @ 1. Spark plug wrench Checking the spark plugs The spark plugs are important engine components, which are easy to check. Since heat and deposits will cause any spark plug to slowly erode, the spark plugs should be removed and checked in accordance with the periodic maintenance and lubrication chart. In addition, the condition of the spark plugs can reveal the condition of the engine. Remove the spark plug as shown, with the spark plug wrench included in the owner's tool kit. Check that the porcelain insulator around the center electrode on each spark plug is a medium-tolight tan (the ideal color when the motorcycle is ridden normally). Check that all spark plugs installed in the engine have the same color. 3. Check each spark plug for electrode erosion and excessive carbon or other deposits, and replace it if necessary. Specified spark plug: C6HSA (NGK) or U20FS-U (DENSO) 6 6-6 PERIODIC MAINTENANCE AND MINOR REPAIR Tightening torque: Spark plug: 12. 5 Nm (1. 25 m·kgf, 9. 0 ft·lb) NOTE: If a torque wrench is not available when installing a spark plug, a good estimate of the correct torque is 1/41/2 turn past finger tight. However, the spark plug should be tightened to the specified torque as soon as possible. @ @ a. Spark plug gap To install a spark plug 1. Measure the spark plug gap with a wire thickness gauge and, if necessary, adjust the gap to specification. Spark plug gap: 0. 60. 7 mm (0. 020. 03 in) 2. Clean the surface of the spark plug gasket and its mating surface, and then wipe off any grime from the spark plug threads. Install the spark plug with the spark plug wrench, and then tighten it to the specified torque. 4. 6 6-7 PERIODIC MAINTENANCE AND MINOR REPAIR EAU00499 EAU01523 Canister (for California only) This model is equipped with a canister to prevent the discharging of fuel vapor into the atmosphere. Before operating this motorcycle, make sure to check the following: q Check each hose connection. q Check each hose and canister for cracks or damage. [. . . ] NOTE: Make any necessary repairs before storing the motorcycle. @ @ 7-5 EAU01038 8- SPECIFICATIONS Specifications CS-01E Model Dimensions Overall length Overall width Overall height Seat height Wheelbase Ground clearance Minimum turning radius Basic weight (with oil and full fuel tank) XV250 XV250C Engine Engine type Cylinder arrangement Displacement Bore × Stroke Compression ratio Starting system Lubrication system XV250/XV250C Engine oil Type 0 10 30 50 70 90 110 130 °F 2, 190 mm (86. 2 in) 815 mm (32. 1 in) 1, 140 mm (44. 9 in) 685 mm (27. 0 in) 1, 490 mm (58. 7 in) 145 mm (5. 7 in) 2, 800 mm (110. 2 in) Recommended engine oil classification -20 -10 0 YAMALUBE 4 (20W-40) or SAE 20W-40 10 20 30 40 50 °C YAMALUBE 4 (10W-30) or SAE 10W-30 API Service SE, SF, SG or higher 147 kg (324 lb) 148 kg (326 lb) CAUTION: Air-cooled 4-stroke, SOHC V-type 2-cylinder 249 cm3 49 × 66 mm (1. 93 × 2. 60 in) 10:1 Electric starter Wet sump Be sure to use motor oils that do not contain anti-friction modifiers.
