[. . . ] OWNER'S MANUAL XJR1300 XJR1300SP 5EA-28199-E3 EAU03338 INTRODUCTION Welcome to the Yamaha world of motorcycling!As the owner of an XJR1300/XJR1300SP you are benefiting from Yamaha's vast , experience and newest technology regarding the design and manufacture of highquality products, which have earned Yamaha a reputation for dependability. Please take the time to read this manual thoroughly, so as to enjoy all advantages of your XJR1300/XJR1300SP The owner's manual does not only instruct you in how to . operate, inspect and maintain your motorcycle, but also in how to safeguard yourself and others from trouble and injury. [. . . ] Remove the oil filter element cover by removing the bolt. 6-8 PERIODIC MAINTENANCE AND MINOR REPAIR 8. Install the oil filter element drain screw, and then tighten it to the specified torque. Tightening torque: Oil filter element drain screw: 7 Nm (0. 7 m·kg) 9. Install the engine oil drain bolt, and then tighten it to the specified torque. Tightening torque: Engine oil drain bolt: 43 Nm (4. 3 m·kg) 10. Add the specified amount of the recommended engine oil, and then install and tighten the oil filler cap. 1. Remove and replace the oil filter element and O-ring. Install the oil filter element cover by aligning the projection on the cover with the slot in the crankcase, installing the bolt, then tightening it to the specified torque. Tightening torque: Oil filter element cover bolt: 15 Nm (1. 5 m·kg) NOTE: Make sure that the O-ring is properly seated. _ _ 6-9 PERIODIC MAINTENANCE AND MINOR REPAIR Recommended engine oil: See page 8-1. Oil quantity: Without oil filter element replacement: 3. 0 L With oil filter element replacement: 3. 35 L Total amount (dry engine): 4. 2 L EC000066 NOTE: After the engine is started, the engine oil level warning light should go off if the oil level is sufficient. _ _ EC000067 CAUTION: If the oil level warning light flickers or remains on, immediately turn the engine off and have a Yamaha dealer check the vehicle. _ _ _ CAUTION: q In order to prevent clutch slippage (since the engine oil also lubricates the clutch), do not mix any chemical additives with the oil. q Make sure that no foreign material enters the crankcase. 12. Turn the engine off, and then check the oil level and correct it if necessary. Start the engine, and then let it idle for several minutes while checking it for oil leakage. If oil is leaking, immediately turn the engine off and check for the cause. 6-10 PERIODIC MAINTENANCE AND MINOR REPAIR 1. Pull the air filter element out. Cleaning the air filter element 6 The air filter element should be cleaned at the intervals specified in the periodic maintenance and lubrication chart. Clean the air filter element more frequently if you are riding in unusually wet or dusty areas. (See page 3-11 for seat removal and installation procedures. ) 2. (See page 6-5 for panel removal and installation procedures. ) 3. While lifting the leads as shown, remove the air filter case cover by removing the screws. 6-11 5. Lightly tap the air filter element to remove most of the dust and dirt, and then blow the remaining dirt out with compressed air as shown. If the air filter element is damaged, replace it. Insert the air filter element into the air filter case.
