[. . . ] OWNER'S MANUAL XVS1100 XVS1100A 5KS-28199-E1 EAU00001 INTRODUCTION Welcome to the Yamaha world of motorcycling!As the owner of an XVS1100/XVS1100A, you are benefiting from Yamaha's vast experience and newest technology regarding the design and manufacture of highquality products, which have earned Yamaha a reputation for dependability. Please take the time to read this manual thoroughly, so as to enjoy all advantages of your XVS1100/XVS1100A. The owner's manual does not only instruct you in how to operate, inspect and maintain your motorcycle, but also in how to safeguard yourself and others from trouble and injury. [. . . ] Start the engine, warm it up for several minutes, and then turn it off. Wait a few minutes until the oil settles, and then check the oil level through the check window located at the bottom-left side of the crankcase. NOTE: The engine oil should be between the minimum and maximum level marks. @ @ 1. If the engine oil is below the minimum level mark, add sufficient oil of the recommended type to raise it to the correct level. To change the engine oil without oil filter element replacement 1. Start the engine, warm it up for several minutes, and then turn it off. Place an oil pan under the engine to collect the used oil. Remove the engine oil filler cap and drain bolt to drain the oil from the crankcase. 4. Install the engine oil drain bolt, and then tighten it to the specified torque. Tightening torque: Engine oil drain bolt: 43 Nm (4. 3 m·kg) 5. Add the specified amount of the recommended engine oil, and then install and tighten the oil filler cap. 6 6-8 PERIODIC MAINTENANCE AND MINOR REPAIR Recommended engine oil: See page 8-1. Oil quantity: Without oil filter element replacement: 3. 0 L With oil filter element replacement: 3. 1 L Total amount (dry engine): 3. 6 L EC000072 6. Start the engine, and then let it idle for several minutes while checking it for oil leakage. If oil is leaking, immediately turn the engine off and check for the cause. NOTE: After the engine is started, the engine oil level warning light should go off if the oil level is sufficient. @ @ EAU02943 Final gear oil The final gear case must be checked for oil leakage before each ride. If any leakage is found, have a Yamaha dealer check and repair the motorcycle. In addition, the final gear oil level must be checked and the oil changed as follows at the intervals specified in the periodic maintenance and lubrication chart. EW000066 EC000067 @ 6 @ CAUTION: q In order to prevent clutch slippage (since the engine oil also lubricates the clutch), do not mix any chemical additives with the oil or use oils of a higher grade than "CD". In addition, do not use oils labeled "ENERGY CONSERVING II" or higher. q Make sure that no foreign material enters the crankcase. CAUTION: If the oil level warning light flickers or remains on, immediately turn the engine off and have a Yamaha dealer check the vehicle. @ @ WARNING q Make sure that no foreign material enters the final gear case. q Make sure that no oil gets on the tire or wheel. @ 7. Turn the engine off, and then check the oil level and correct it if necessary. NOTE: Have a Yamaha dealer replace the oil filter element when necessary. @ @ @ 6-9 PERIODIC MAINTENANCE AND MINOR REPAIR NOTE: The oil level should be at the brim of the filler hole. @ @ 3.
