[. . . ] OWNER'S MANUAL YZFR6SX(C) LIT-11626-21-32 4P6-28199-12 EAU10041 INTRODUCTION EAU10080 Congratulations on your purchase of the Yamaha YZFR6SX(C). This model is the result of Yamaha's vast experience in the production of fine sporting, touring, and pacesetting racing machines. It represents the high degree of craftsmanship and reliability that have made Yamaha a leader in these fields. This manual will give you an understanding of the operation, inspection, and basic maintenance of this motorcycle. [. . . ] NOTE: After the engine is started, the engine oil level warning light should go off if the oil level is sufficient. ECA10400 To check the coolant level 1. Place the vehicle on a level surface and hold it in an upright position. NOTE: G The coolant level must be checked on a cold engine since the level varies with engine temperature. G Make sure that the vehicle is positioned straight up when checking the coolant level. A slight tilt to the side can result in a false reading. Check the coolant level in the coolant reservoir. NOTE: The coolant should be between the minimum and maximum level marks. 6 NOTE: Be sure to wipe off spilled oil on any parts after the engine and exhaust system have cooled down. ECA11620 CAUTION: If the oil level warning light flickers or remains on, immediately turn the engine off and have a Yamaha dealer check the vehicle. Turn the engine off, and then check the oil level and correct it if necessary. Install the cowling. CAUTION: G In order to prevent clutch slippage (since the engine oil also lubricates the clutch), do not mix any chemical additives. Do not use oils with a diesel specification of "CD" or oils of a higher quality than specified. In addition, do not use oils labeled "ENERGY CONSERVING II" or higher. 6-14 PERIODIC MAINTENANCE AND MINOR REPAIR G If water has been added to the coolant, have a Yamaha dealer check the antifreeze content of the coolant as soon as possible, otherwise the effectiveness of the coolant will be reduced. EWA10380 WARNING 1. Coolant reservoir cap Never attempt to remove the radiator cap when the engine is hot. Install the reservoir cap, and then install the coolant reservoir cover by installing the bolts. NOTE: G The radiator fan is automatically switched on or off according to the coolant temperature in the radiator. G If the engine overheats, see page 6-45 for further instructions. EAU20344 3. If the coolant is at or below the minimum level mark, remove the coolant reservoir cover by removing the bolts, remove the reservoir cap, and then add coolant to the maximum level mark. Coolant reservoir capacity (up to the maximum level mark): 0. 25 L (0. 26 US qt) (0. 22 Imp. qt) ECA10471 CAUTION: G 6 G 1. Bolt If coolant is not available, use distilled water or soft tap water instead. Do not use hard water or salt water since it is harmful to the engine. If water has been used instead of coolant, replace it with coolant as soon as possible, otherwise the cooling system will not be protected against frost and corrosion. 6-15 To change the coolant 1. Place the vehicle on a level surface and let the engine cool if necessary. PERIODIC MAINTENANCE AND MINOR REPAIR 2. Place a container under the engine to collect the used coolant. Loosen the clamp screw, and then disconnect the air intake duct.
