Yamaha has met these standards without reducing the performance or economy of operation of the motorcycle. To maintain these high standards, it is important that you and your Yamaha dealer pay close attention to the recommended maintenance schedules and operating instructions contained within this manual. IMPORTANT MANUAL INFORMATION EAU10131 Particularly important information is distinguished in this manual by the following notations: The Safety Alert Symbol means ATTENTION! [. . . ] Install the new oil filter cartridge with an oil filter wrench, and then tighten it to the specified torque with a torque wrench. Tightening torque: Oil filter cartridge: 17 Nm (1. 7 m·kgf, 12 ft·lbf) NOTE: An oil filter wrench is available at a Yamaha dealer. Apply a thin coat of engine oil to the O-ring of the new oil filter cartridge. 9. Install the coolant reservoir cover by installing the bolts. Install the engine oil drain bolt, and then tighten it to the specified torque. NOTE: Check the washer for damage and replace it if necessary. Tightening torque: Engine oil drain bolt: 43 Nm (4. 3 m·kgf, 31 ft·lbf) 6 6-13 PERIODIC MAINTENANCE AND MINOR REPAIR 11. Add the specified amount of the recommended engine oil, and then install and tighten the oil filler cap. Recommended engine oil: See page 8-1. Oil quantity: Without oil filter cartridge replacement: 2. 40 L (2. 54 US qt) (2. 11 Imp. qt) With oil filter cartridge replacement: 2. 60 L (2. 75 US qt) (2. 29 Imp. qt) G Make sure that no foreign material enters the crankcase. EAU20070 Coolant The coolant level should be checked before each ride. In addition, the coolant must be changed at the intervals specified in the periodic maintenance and lubrication chart. EAU38171 12. Start the engine, and then let it idle for several minutes while checking it for oil leakage. If oil is leaking, immediately turn the engine off and check for the cause. NOTE: After the engine is started, the engine oil level warning light should go off if the oil level is sufficient. ECA10400 To check the coolant level 1. Remove the coolant drain bolt to drain the cooling system. Loosen the clamp screw, and then disconnect the radiator hose to drain the radiator. 1. Pull the fuel hoses upward to remove them from the guide. 5. Remove the radiator cap. EWA10380 WARNING Never attempt to remove the radiator cap when the engine is hot. 1. Clamp screw 6-16 PERIODIC MAINTENANCE AND MINOR REPAIR Tightening torque: Coolant drain bolt: 10 Nm (1. 0 m·kgf, 7. 2 ft·lbf) 1. Fuel tank breather hose (except for California) 2. Pour the recommended coolant into the reservoir to the maximum level mark, and then install the coolant reservoir cap. Insert the fuel hoses into the guide, place them in their original positions, and then install the coolant reservoir cover by installing the bolts. 10. Remove the coolant reservoir by removing the bolts. Remove the coolant reservoir cap, and then turn the coolant reservoir upside down to empty it. 12. After the coolant is completely drained, thoroughly flush the cooling system with clean tap water.
