[. . . ] Several suggested activities for tournament purposes are described in Appendix A. B. C. LISTS There are two lists: The Bowman (beginners) and the Huntsman (more experienced) . SCORING Based on the structure of the competition. The Range Master will arbitrate any disputes. II. BOWS Limited to recurve, straight, semi-recurve, and longbows only. Bows should be made of materials available in the time-period of the archer. Fiberglass bows should be avoided if possible, except for use in combat archery where one may not want to endanger their "favorite" bow. There are no draw weight limits in target archery. Combat archery has a maximum bow weight of 35lbs. The local Minister of Archery and their Range Masters are required to enforce this rule. B. OTHER EQUIPMENT Gloves, arm guards, finger gloves, finger tabs, arrow rests, nock locators, bowrests, and quivers. These items are suggested, but not required. C. EQUIPMENT LIMITATIONS No compound bows, mechanical sights, spectacle sights, counter weights, stablizers, levels, or string trigger releases may be used unless the item is documented as being used by someone in the period of the archer. D. ARROWS 1. There are two types of arrows that are that are allowable depending on the type of tournament: a) Standard target arrow shafts must be made of wood. Fletchings should be of a natural color. Solid plastic fletching should be avoided in favor of actual feather or segmented synthetic fletching. b) Combat arrows are made of fiberglass shafts and foam tips. The arrows must be made as described in the combat arrow construction guide (available from the Minister of Archery (local or Imperial), or on-line at http://www. adrianempire. org/documents/manuals/Arrows. pdf. ) Continuing Crown Writ 2: Archery Manual as adopted September 1999 2. Page 5 of 9 Arrows should be clearly identified by colored banding on the shaft. Archers are encouraged to use personal/household colors for marking arrows. E. TARGET BACKSTOP The backstop should be one of the following (for standard target archery using real arrows): · Three bales of straw/hay · An eight- (8) to twelve- (12) inch closed-cell foam block · A standing thirty-six (36) inch round woven grass mat · A cardboard box tightly filled with cardboard at least ten (10) inches thick F. EQUIPMENT OWNERSHIP Each person must supply their own equipment. Each person is responsible for the condition and maintenance of their equipment. III. RANGE SAFETY This section describes range safety when using standard target arrows. Range safety is much more relaxed when archers are using combat arrows. A. RANGE MASTER A Range Master must be present at all times when archery is taking place. The Range Master will be responsible for range safety. The Range Master is the ultimate authority on the Archery Range. The Range Masters may participate in the archery. B. SIGNALING READINESS No shooter is to fire their bow until the Rangemaster has checked for safety and given the okay to fire. [. . . ] Archers are paired off with an opponent by the Master of the Lists. Each archer shoots their six (6) arrows within a ninety (90) second time frame. Arrows not shot are forfeit in that round. When both archers have shot, and the Range Master gives the okay, the archers will retrieve their arrows and total their point for that round. [. . . ]
