[. . . ] ACCESS CONTROL | CCTV | EAS | RFID | FIRE PROTECTION | INTRUDER ALARMS DATA SHEET Sensormatic® RFID Enhanced Operating Software (EOS) The Sensormatic® RFID Enhanced Operating Software (EOS) is an application that runs on `intelligent' RFID readers, creating the reader's `personality' and offering control of the reader's duty cycle and its performance using reader-resident configuration data. The two major components of this configuration data are: Individual reader identification and data delivery destination information, defining the specific reader's identity and its data stream targets. [. . . ] This is a critical capability, especially when the reader's network connectivity becomes unavailable or impaired, which can be a frequent occurrence in real operational settings. The reader-specific identification and data target configuration can be managed directly by the Device Commander software, and contains elements defining the: · Reader Name · NTP Server · Command Channel · Notification Channel Data Capture ­ There are three different methods for initiating data capture: NTP (network time protocol), Triggers or GPIO (general purpose input/output), and the combination of these two types of controls. Using an NTP server on the network, the NTP control elements identify time slices during which individual read points perform tag reads. Triggers/GPIO elements identify the reader's RS-232 port input and output signals and their interactions with reader operation. NTP and GPIO can be used in concert to define very effective data capturing personalities. Tag States & Event Transmission ­ settings for computing tag events for each reporting cycle, offering a high degree of control over how captured tag data is translated into events, and which events are sent to the target enterprise system through a data channel. EOS tag data notification is based on the EPCglobal RP 1. 1 standard. Performance The tag capture configuration defines the reader behavior and performance parameters, or functional personality, and the same personality can be used for all readers confronting similar operating conditions and use cases. For example, once the reader configuration for a typical dock door at a facility is optimized, all readers performing at similar sites can use the same configuration. Using common personalities simplifies reader management, and minimizes the number of distinct configurations required for the entire system.
