In this chapter practical hints and ideas are given about how to use the appliance to reach maximum energy saving and there is environmental information about the appliance as well. How to save energy Avoid putting the appliance in a sunny place and near anything that gives off heat. Be sure that the condenser and the compressor are well ventilated. Do not cover the sections where ventilation is. wrap products in tightly closing dishes or cling film to avoid building up unnecessary frost. Avoid products put in the freezer compartment to touch foods already frozen. Do not leave the door open longer than necessary and avoid unnecessary openings. Put warm foods into the appliance only when they are at room temperature. It is a normal phenomenon that a part of the internal humidity is turned into frost and ice during operation. However, a thick frost or ice layer has an insulating effect and thus reduces the freezing performance leading to rising internal temperatures and higher energy consumption and, above a certain layer thickness, to difficulties in the opening or sudden break of the freezer door. If the formation of frost and ice is not significant, use the spatula (accessory) to remove or scrape off the frost or ice layer. Please note that the tray shown in the figure is not an accessory. If the frost or ice layer is too thick for removal with the spatula, defrosting will be necessary. After removing them from the freezer, place the frozen foods in a basket padded with paper or cloth and kept in a cool place, or relocate them into the deep-freezing or cooling compartment of a normal fridge. From time to time use a cloth or sponge to sweep off laterally the defrost water so that it can be collected in a drain at the bottom of the product and then remove the water as follows: Place a tray of sufficient height in front of the product. Following the arrow, carefully pull out the defrost water drain, located in the central bottom section of the product, to let the defrost water flow into the tray. The defrosting process will be quicker if you put a pan filled with hot water on the cooling plates used as shelves. Once defrosting is completed, dry the wet surfaces and push back the defrost water drain. Rotate the thermostat to position <<18°C>> and let the product operate in quick freeze mode for at least 2 hours before putting back the formerly removed frozen foods. It is practical to clean the inside of the freezer and defrost it at a time.
