[. . . ] These operating instructions are for use with several technically comparable models with varying accessories. Please observe the notes which apply to your model. Notes which are important for your safety or for the proper functioning of the appliance are stressed with a warning triangle and/ or with signal words (Warning!, Caution!, Attention!). Please observe the following carefully. This symbol guides you step by step in the operation of the appliance. [. . . ] Unplug the appliance, or pull or unscrew the fuse. Defrost freezer compartment and clean thoroughly (see section: "Cleaning and Care"). Leave door open after defrosting to avoid accumulation of odours. 61 Control and Information System The control and information system comprises a temperature display, an optical warning light and an acoustic warning device. The system warns: ­ if the temperature in the freezer compartment is too warm; ­ if there is a malfunction in the appliance. Temperature Warning The red warning light flashes and a warning tone sounds as soon as the temperature in the freezer compartment is warmer than -12°C. Such a temperature increase is probably due to: ­ frequent or extended opening of the door; ­ storing large quantities of warm food; ­ a fault in the appliance. The warning tone can be switched off using the WARNING OFF button. The warning light and warning tone switch off automatically when the ACTUAL temperature in the freezer compartment drops again and returns to the range of the display. Note: The warning tone switches off: - after the initial start up when the internal temperature of -18°C has been reached; - by pressing on the Frostmatic button. Malfunctions If the electronics in the appliance have detected a fault that prevents the ACTUAL temperature being measured, all the lights in the temperature display will flash. The appliance will continue to function using a backup program until customer service has repaired the appliance. 62 Freezing and storing frozen food You can use your freezer for freezing fresh food yourself. · The temperature in the freezer compartment must be ­18 °C or colder before freezing food. · Please observe the freezing capacity given on the rating plate. Freezer drawers (3) and (4) should only be used for storage of frozen food. The lowest drawer has a solid floor and can be used for catching some of the melt-water when the freezer is beeing defrosted. In order to enlarge the appliance´s volume the two centre drawers (2) and (3) can be removed. Place frozen foods in the drawers sorted by type, as far as possible. Riders are supplied for placing on drawers. To mark the contents of the individual drawers, press the rider over the corresponding symbol (see "Frozen Food Symbols/Freezer Calendar" section). This will give you a better overview of the contents, avoid extended door opening and therefore save electricity. Once the required storage temperate has been reached, press the fast freeze button again. Tips: · The following are suited for the packaging of frozen goods: ­ freezer bags and polyethylene wraps; ­ special cans for frozen goods; ­ extra­thick aluminium foil. · The following are suitable for sealing bags and wrap: plastic clips, rubber bands or tape. · Smooth the air out of the bag before sealing; air makes it easier for the frozen food to dry out.
