OPEN APPROACH Ascom openAccess® is a multi-faceted platform strategy providing the framework for the development of Ascom's military communication products used in defense,  peacekeeping and other mission critical networks.  [. . . ] That's why Ascom takes a different view and has proven its commitment to openness with OpenAccess -- a truly open and easy to manage platform. Ascom openAccess® serves as a focal point for collaboration with our partners and our customers. It provides a high availability and well documented solution with open specifications for interfaces,  services and supporting formats. The platform consists of multiple parts: a generic software fraction ­ the openAccess SW Platform and the openAccess Node Base Product Software - and an assembly of diverse generic hardware components that includes the rugged COTS,  IPC and RoAN server systems,  HW interface cards and different types of rugged and non-rugged housings. This standardsbased combination allows the fast development of robust,  high-performance product variants ­ all aligned within a cohesive stable communication platform. While lowering costs and reducing technical risks,  it lets operations focus development efforts on innovation and differentiation. The Ascom openAccess Node Base Product Software ­ referred to as AN BPS ­ permits Ascom preferred partners to straightforwardly integrate their own application add-ons. It enables their software components to work across a range of systems and interoperate with other software components.
