Select Update BIOS from the Internet option from the drop-down menu,  then click Next.

Select the ASUS FTP site nearest you to avoid network traffic,  or click Auto Select. 5. 

From the FTP site,  select the BIOS version that you wish to download. Follow the screen instructions to complete the update process. 

The ASUS Update utility is capable of updating itself through the Internet. Always update the utility to avail of all its features. 

Updating the BIOS through a BIOS file
To update the BIOS through a BIOS file: 1. Launch the ASUS Update utility from the Windows® desktop by clicking Start > Programs > ASUS > ASUSUpdate > ASUSUpdate. Select Update BIOS from a file option from the drop-down menu,  then click Next.

Locate the BIOS file from the Open window,  then click Save. Follow the screen instructions to complete the update process.

Creating a bootable floppy disk

a. Insert a 1. 44MB floppy disk into the drive. 
Windows® XP environment

DOS environment

Do either one of the following to create a bootable floppy disk. 

b. At the DOS prompt,  type format A:/S then press <Enter>. Insert a 1. 44 MB floppy disk to the floppy disk drive. The actual BIOS screen displays may not be same as shown.

Copy the AFUDOS utility (afudos. exe) from the motherboard support CD to the bootable floppy disk you created earlier. Boot the system in DOS mode,  then at the prompt type: afudos /o[filename] where the [filename] is any user-assigned filename not more than eight alphanumeric characters for the main filename and three alphanumeric characters for the extension name.

Press <Enter>. The utility copies the current BIOS file to the floppy disk.

The utility returns to the DOS prompt after copying the current BIOS file.

Updating the BIOS file

To update the BIOS file using the AFUDOS utility: Visit the ASUS website (www. asus. com) and download the latest BIOS file for the motherboard. Save the BIOS file to a bootable floppy disk. 
Write the BIOS filename on a piece of paper. You need to type the exact BIOS filename at the DOS prompt.

Copy the AFUDOS utility (afudos. exe) from the motherboard support CD to the bootable floppy disk you created earlier. Boot the system in DOS mode,  then at the prompt type: afudos /i[filename] where [filename] is the latest or the original BIOS file on the bootable floppy disk.

The utility verifies the file and starts updating the BIOS.

Do not shut down or reset the system while updating the BIOS to prevent system boot failure!

The utility returns to the DOS prompt after the BIOS update process is completed.  [. . . ] If you want to auto-configure,  proceed to the next step,  otherwise,  skip to step 6. Select Auto Setup for Data Security and press <Enter>. The following confirmation message appears.
