1. Save Current BIOS To File
This option allows you to save a copy of the original motherboard BIOS in case you need to reinstall it. It is recommended that you save AFLASH. EXE and the BIOS file to a bootable floppy disk.
To save your current BIOS, type [1] at the Main Menu and then press <Enter>. The Save Current BIOS To File screen appears. Type a filename and the path, for example, A:\XXXXX1 and then press <Enter>.

IV. Update BIOS Including Boot Block and ESCD
This option updates the boot block, the baseboard BIOS, and the ACPI extended system configuration data (ESCD) parameter block from a new BIOS file. See the next page for procedures on downloading an updated BIOS file. To update your current BIOS, type [2] at the Main Menu and then press <Enter>. The Update BIOS Including Boot Block and ESCD screen appears. Type the filename of your new BIOS and the path, for example, A:\XX2I1002. AWD, and then press <Enter>. When prompted to confirm the BIOS update, press Y to start the update.
The utility starts to program the new BIOS information into the flash ROM. When the programming is finished, Flashed Successfully will be displayed.

Managing and Updating Your Motherboard's BIOS
Upon First Use of the Computer System 1. Create a bootable system floppy disk by typing [FORMAT A:/S] from the DOS prompt without creating "AUTOEXEC. BAT" and "CONFIG. SYS" files. Copy AFLASH. EXE to the just created boot disk. Run AFLASH. EXE from this new disk and select option 1. Save Current BIOS To File on the previous page for more details and the rest of the steps. Updating BIOS Procedures (only when necessary) 1. Download an updated ASUS BIOS file from the Internet (WWW or FTP) or a BBS (Bulletin Board Service) (see ASUS CONTACT INFORMATION on page 3 for details) and save to the disk you created earlier. At the "A:\" prompt, type AFLASH and then press <Enter>. At the Main Menu, type 2 and then press <Enter>. Update BIOS Including Boot Block and ESCD on the previous page for more details and the rest of the steps. [. . . ] C:\CONFIG. SYS C:\AUTOEXEC. BAT You must reboot in order for the newly edited CONFIG. SYS to be initiated. You may choose to exit to DOS by pressing <ENTER> but be sure to reboot on your own. A message "Please remember to REBOOT your system" will appear when exiting. Otherwise, press <F10> to automatically reboot your system.
