[. . . ] Connect line cord to modular jack Plug the free end of the line cord into a modular jack. Check for dial tone Lift the handset and listen for a dial tone. If you can't hear a dial tone, refer to "In Case of Difficulty" and try to correct the problem. TO DISCONNECT the telephone, squeeze the clip on the modular plug and pull it out of the jack. 2 INSTALLATION WALL INSTALLATION 1. [. . . ] Connect handset to telephone base Connect one end of the coiled handset cord to the base. Check for dial tone Lift the handset and listen for a dial tone. If you can't hear a dial tone, refer to "In Case of Difficulty" and try to correct the problem. Line Jack Wall Jack Handset Jack Figure 4 NOTE: If you cannot fit the base onto the wall jack plate, remove the top two non-slip feet. 4 OPERATION Redial The telephone always stores in memory the last number dialed. To dial the same number again, lift the handset, and press REDIAL . The redial memory can accept numbers up to 32 digits long. The number will remain in memory until you change it by dialing another telephone number. For privacy, you can erase the redial memory. Lift the handset, then press any digit (1-9). Flash Press FLASH instead of pressing the switchhook to activate customer calling services such as call waiting or three-way calling. You may have to press other buttons before or after FLASH as explained in custom calling instructions provided by your local telephone company. Ringer Volume The RINGER volume switch allows you to adjust the loudness of the telephone ringer from OFF to LO to HI. Slide the switch to the desired volume level. Receiver (Handset) Volume The Receiver volume switch on the left side of the base has three positions which allow you to adjust the loudness of your call from NORMAL to LOUD. Slide the switch to the desired volume level. Temporary Tone Temporary tone dialing is used only when you have rotary service. It allows you access to services that require tone signaling, including some tone-activated computer systems (e. g. , telephone banking). To change from pulse (rotary) to tone dialing during a call: 1. Dial a telephone number with the dial mode switch set to PULSE. Press TONE ; all buttons pressed after this will send tone signals. After you hang up, the phone automatically returns to rotary service. 5 MEMORY Memory Features Numbers will remain stored in memory unless you erase or change them by entering other numbers. Capacity: This telephone can store up to nine different phone numbers, each up to 18 digits long. Speed Dialing: Nine telephone numbers can be stored in standard speed-dialing locations. You can dial any of these numbers by pressing two buttons. NOTE: Numbers programmed into a memory location might not be retained if the telephone has been unplugged from the line jack for a half hour or more. Speed Dialing To program numbers into memory: 1. [. . . ] If you have rotary service, you cannot dial numbers with the switch set to TONE. Set the switch to PULSE, then hang up and dial again. If you have tone dialing service, you can use either tone or dial-pulse mode. If you set the switch to TONE, numbers are dialed much more quickly. [. . . ]
