Improper use of the appliance can, however, present a risk of both personal injury and material damage. To avoid the risk of accidents and damage to the appliance, read these instructions carefully before using it for the first time. [. . . ] Instead extinguish the flames using a suitable fire blanket, damp towel or similar to smother the flames. For added protection, it is advisable to use heat-resistant pot holders or gloves when using the appliance. Do not let them get damp or wet, as this causes heat to transfer through the material more quickly with the risk of burning yourself. Do not use the appliance as a resting place for anything else. This could lead to a danger of the article beginning to melt or catching fire, if residual heat were still present or if the appliance was switched on by mistake. This could be a fire hazard if the appliance was switched on by mistake. Clean the lava rocks regularly and replace them when necessary. Rocks which are saturated catch fire easily. The grill trough and the lava rock container should be cleaned after each use to keep them free of oil and fat. 7 Warning and Safety instructions Appliance faults In the event of damage or a defect, switch off the appliance immediately. Disconnect completely from the electricity supply. If the appliance has not yet been fully installed, the electricity cable must be disconnected from the supply point. Clean all other appliance surfaces with a damp cloth only, and then wipe dry. ­ Salt food after grilling, and not before as it could dry out too much. ­ Marinating often improves the flavour of food to be grilled. ­ Brush food that has not been marinated with a little oil. Only use oils that can be heated to a high temperature. The lower power settings are suitable for keeping food warm. 14 Use Safety cut-out A safety cut-out automatically switches the appliance off if the water level drops too low. As soon as the appliance has cooled down, the grill element switches back on again and you can continue grilling. After grilling Proceed as follows: ^ Switch the grill off. ^ Clean the grill after each use while it is still warm to the touch (see "Cleaning and care"). ^ After grilling check the appearance of the lava rocks. If the rocks look dark they are saturated with oil and must be cleaned or replaced. 15 Cleaning and care General notes Clean the appliance regularly, preferably after each use.
