Detailed instructions for use are in the User's Guide.

[. . . ] The letter identification and air line connections are shown below for reference. AR-1TM VALVE AIR CONNECTION Supply (to reservoir) Delivery (to brake actuator) EMBOSSED IDENT. SUP DEL SER Service (to brake valve rear service delivery) Like the R-14TM relay valve, the AR-1TM valve incorporates a quick release valve adjacent to the service port which provides for rapid exhaust of control air pressure from above the 1 SD-13-4795 EC-15TM ANTILOCK CONTROLLER AR-1TM ANTILOCK RELAY TYPICAL MOUNTING BRACKET FIGURE 2 - CR-15TM ANTILOCK RELAY CONTROLLER relay piston. The standard AR-1TM valve is offered with a 4 psi crack pressure however with the addition of a various springs beneath the relay piston higher crack pressures are possible. The AR-1TM valve's internal components are interchangeable with the R-12TM and R-14TM relay valves therefore the same maintenance kit is used to service all three valves. HOLDING-BALANCED The air pressure being delivered to the antilock modulators and brake actuators is also present beneath the relay piston. When the air pressure above and below relay piston is equal, the piston moves slightly allowing the inlet valve to return to its seat. [. . . ] Air exiting at this exhaust port indicates the AR-1TM valve integral quick release is functioning. Build the air system pressure to governor cut-out, apply a soap solution to the exhaust port in body. The leakage noted should not exceed a one inch bubble in less than three (3) seconds. Make and hold a full brake application and apply a soap solution to the exhaust ports in the body and cover and around the cover where it joins the body. The leakage noted should not exceed a one inch bubble in less than three (3) seconds at any exhaust port. WARNING!PLEASE READ AND FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS TO AVOID PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH: When working on or around a vehicle, the following general precautions should be observed at all times. Park the vehicle on a level surface, apply the parking brakes, and always block the wheels. Stop the engine and remove ignition key when working under or around the vehicle. When working in the engine compartment, the engine should be shut off and the ignition key should be removed. Where circumstances require that the engine be in operation, EXTREME CAUTION should be used to prevent personal injury resulting from contact with moving, rotating, leaking, heated or electrically charged components. Do not attempt to install, remove, disassemble or assemble a component until you have read and thoroughly understand the recommended procedures. Use only the proper tools and observe all precautions pertaining to use of those tools. If the work is being performed on the vehicle's air brake system, or any auxiliary pressurized air systems, make certain to drain the air pressure from all reservoirs before beginning ANY work on the vehicle. If the vehicle is equipped with an AD-ISTM air dryer system or a dryer reservoir module, be sure to drain the purge reservoir. Following the vehicle manufacturer's recommended procedures, deactivate the electrical system in a manner that safely removes all electrical power from the vehicle. Never connect or disconnect a hose or line containing pressure; it may whip. Never remove a component or plug unless you are certain all system pressure has been depleted. Use only genuine Bendix® replacement parts, components and kits. Replacement hardware, tubing, hose, fittings, etc. [. . . ] If the AR-1TM valve was equipped with a relay piston return spring (19), install the spring in the body, large diameter first. 7 7. Using lubricant to hold them in place, install sealing ring (16) on the cover (15). Install the o-ring (18) on the relay piston (17), then install the piston in the body (5). After noting the relationship marks made prior to disassembly, assemble the cover (15) on the body (5) and the mounting bracket on the body (5) and secure the components together using the two cap screws (11) and two bolts (13), lock washers (12), and nuts (14).
