Quick Release Skewer Installation
!v WARNING
Cycling is an inherently dangerous activity. [. . . ] er including the threads (see diagram 1). Slide the skewer through the hollow hub axle of the wheel so that the CLOSE quick release lever will be on the left side of the bike when the wheel is installed. Put the spring that you removed back onto the skewer. The small end of OPEN the spring should face the hub. Thread the tension adjusting nut onto the skewer. Diagram 2: Open and closed positions of the Quick Release Skewer. Move the quick release lever to a position halfway between the OPEN and CLOSE position (perpendicular to the bicycle frame). Using your hand, turn the tension adjusting nut until it can no longer be turned and is firmly against the fork or rear dropout (see diagram 2). Ensure the axle is positioned correctly in the forks or rear dropouts Diagram 3: Axle positions. Move the quick release lever to the CLOSE position. Be sure the quick release lever is all the way to the CLOSE position. Note: if the Quick Release Lever can easily be pushed to the CLOSE position, this means that it is not secured tightly enough. [. . . ] Please refer to your bicycle owner's manual for information on the brake quick release. Make sure the Quick Release Levers are in the CLOSE position before riding your bike.
