But the data in the SCF directory sometimes takes time to catch up with the actual changes at the local level. Your information about a facility's service area may be more accurate. If you enter at an ordinary post office, Presort cannot automatically determine where to apply the DDU discount. You have to tell Presort in which ZIP Codes to apply the DDU discount. Get the range of eligible ZIP Codes from the postmaster of the delivery office. Information about entering these ZIP Codes into Presort is at "Automatic DDU versus setting ZIP ranges" on page 140. You may have to hold a USPS permit at each office where you enter mail. Ask your postmaster or USPS account representative about what you're required to do.
Automatic DDU versus setting ZIP ranges
To instruct Presort to use USPS data to determine eligibility or to define the ZIP ranges yourself, go to the Entry Point Description block. You'll need to: Set the PER/STD/PSVC QFY for DDU Rate parameter to Yes in order to claim the discount. = y Set the PER/STD/PSVC Use USPS DDU Data parameter to Yes to tell Presort that you want it to determine where to apply the DDU discount. If you have to manually set the DDU areas, turn off the PER/STD/PSVC Use USPS DDU Data parameter, and enter the ZIP ranges yourself.

How to link schemes to entry points
In most cases, you will want Presort to apply each presort scheme in your job to each entry point. For example, say we are preparing a Standard Mail Enhanced Carrier-Route letter job with pieces destined for the Quad Cities SCF, the Cedar Rapids SCF, and the Des Moines BMC. We would set up our job with the following schemes in this order: 1. 1C/STD Regular Letters Presort would use each of these schemes to sort mail pieces destined to each of the three entry points. In some cases, however, you may not want to apply each presort scheme in the job to each entry point. Here are two examples: A pallet mailer might use this feature to ensure that only palletized mail is trucked to remote entry points, while sacks are entered locally. You could also set up two or more copies of a scheme, each with different settings such as minimum pallet weight. Then you'd be able to apply different minimum pallet weights to each entry point. A lettershop here in La Crosse, Wisconsin enters mail at several nearby towns. They use this feature to ensure that only DDU carrier-route mail is prepared for the outlying towns, while a larger set of schemes are applied to the SCF in downtown La Crosse. You might find it helpful to draw a matrix or table of all your schemes and entry points. [. . . ] Displays record number columns.

Messages during verification and processing
Verifier messages
The ZIPCount job-file verifier is a part of the ZIPCount utility, job-file error messages display discrete line numbers which associate the error messages to specific blocks. It also checks for mistakes and omissions, such as: The mail direction, facility direction, or mpc08 directory file was not found Input file is defined as fixed-length ASCII, but FMT file cannot be found. Entry at the File Protection parameter is not among the options available. The field "zip_code" was not found in the input file.
Correcting errors
The verifier identifies more than one error and tells you where they are located. [. . . ]
