[. . . ] Press the DIGITAL EFFECTS button to close the menu. • The camcorder remembers your chosen digital effect setting until you change it. • Digital effects can be selected but not operated on a blank blue screen (appears in PLAY (VCR) mode). • Digital effects operated during PLAY (VCR) mode are not recorded onto the original tape. • Digital effects can be added to another tape when dubbing using the AV out terminal (PLAY (VCR) mode), but not the DV out terminal. • You cannot operate digital effects while photo/date searching. • If you slide the program selector to [ (Easy Recording) while the digital effect display is flashing, it will disappear from the display and reappear when you return to Q (program AE) mode. • The digital effect display will flash for 2 seconds after setting, even if DISPLAYS is set to OFF in the menu. 3_A3100_E(38-75) 2/5/02 17:28 Page 57 Faders Fade Trigger (FADE-T) When you start recording, the scene gradually fades in from a black screen. When you stop recording, it gradually fades out. Vertical Wipe (WIPE ) When you start recording, the picture begins as a thin vertical line in the center of the screen which gradually expands sideways until it fills the whole of the screen. E When you end a scene, the image is wiped from both sides of the screen. Using the Full Range of Features Horizontal Wipe (WIPE ) When you start recording, the picture begins as a thin horizontal line in the center of the screen which gradually expands upwards and downwards until it fills the whole screen. When you end a scene, the image is wiped from the top and bottom of screen. Mosaic Fade (M. FADE)* Blurs the image by enlarging the size of some pixels. The 16-bit mode produces the higher sound quality (slightly superior to CD) while the 12-bit mode records on two channels (stereo 1), leaving 2 channels free (stereo 2) for you to add new sound at a later date. CAMERA E , PLAY (VCR) VCR SET UP AUDIO MODE••12bit ( 39) To switch to the 16-bit mode, open the menu and select VCR SET UP. Then select AUDIO MODE, set it to “16 bit” and close the menu. • “16 bit” is shown in the display for approximately 4 seconds. Notes: • For details on adding new sound, see p. • For details of playing back a tape that has new sound on stereo 2, see p. • When you record to the A3100 from a camcorder with DV terminal outputs, the audio mode becomes automatically set to 12 bit. • In PLAY (VCR) mode, the audio mode takes effect when doing analog line-in recording or AV insert. When you do DV in recording, the setting automatically changes to that of the digital device connected to the camcorder. Using the Full Range of Features External microphone For greater creative control over audio recording, you can connect an external microphone to the camcorder via the MIC terminal. When using the MIC terminal, use a microphone with a built-in power supply (condenser microphone). It is possible to connect almost any stereo microphone with a plug diameter of 1/8 inch (3. 5 mm), however, their audio levels will be different from that of the builtin microphone. Note: • Be careful when using long microphones as they may extend into the frame. 61 3_A3100_E(38-75) 2/5/02 17:28 Page 62 E Wind screen The camcorder has an automatic wind screen to prevent wind noise from interfering with the sound track.
