Remove the battery (see Battery on page 34). Remove the optical drive: 1. Position the computer with the left side toward you. Remove the Phillips PM2. 5×9. 0 screw (1) that secures the optical drive to the computer. Insert a thin tool, such as a paper clip (2), into the release access. Use the disc tray frame to slide the optical drive (3) out of the computer. 5. 7. If it is necessary to replace the optical drive bracket, position the optical drive with the rear toward you. Remove the two Phillips PM2. 0×4. 0 screws (1) that secure the optical drive bracket to the optical drive. Remove the optical drive bracket (2). Reverse this procedure to reassemble and install an optical drive. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer. Remove the battery (see Battery on page 34). 46 Chapter 4 Removal and replacement procedures Remove the switch cover and keyboard: 1. Remove the following: (1) Four Phillips PM2. 5×9. 0 screws that secure the switch cover to the computer (2) One Phillips PM2. 5×9. 0 screw that secures the keyboard to the computer (3) Six Phillips PM2. 5×5. 0 screws that secure the switch cover to the computer 2. 5. Turn the computer right-side up, with the front toward you. Lift the left and right sides (1) of the switch cover until it disengages from the computer. Release the switch cover (2) by sliding it back until it rests on the display bezel. Component replacement procedures 47 6. Remove the three Phillips PM2. 0×4. 0 screws that secure the keyboard to the computer. 7. 8. Lift the rear edge of the keyboard (1) until it rests at angle. Release the keyboard (2) by sliding it back until it rests on the switch cover and display bezel. 9. Release the zero insertion force (ZIF) connector (1) to which the keyboard cable is attached, and then disconnect the keyboard cable (2). 48 Chapter 4 Removal and replacement procedures 10. Release the ZIF connector (1) to which the LED board cable is attached, and then disconnect the LED board cable (2). 12. Reverse this procedure to install the switch cover and keyboard.
