/Continued - Connection To 3GS Panel After all the connections have been made, switch on the 3GS panel and follow the normal cold start procedure. The Engineers code must set up the 3GS for serial communication. Enter the Engineers code followed by (left shift 8). Select the 3GS port to configure (Usually port 1 is used) and set the Data format as follows:Printer: System ID: Access Control: Log Filter: Dial Mode: Baud Rate: Data: No 1 (or the panel ID in a chain system) 31 8191 0 9600 (or as set in APLEX. DAT file, see below) 8, E, 1
The Datalog can now be powered up and will configure the 3GS correctly. [. . . ] The wiring connection from the LDAC to the PC remains unchanged from a single panel system, however the connection from the LDAC to the first Network card should be made using the terminal numbers shown above. The patch panel on the LDAC should also be wired as shown.
Cable Distances
Europlex U. K. have stated that the maximum cable length from the PC to the LDAC is 15M. Up to 2KM of cable is allowed between the LDAC and the first Network card, and likewise up to 2KM between each subsequent Network card. NOTE 1: On early type Network cards the 8 PIN IC marked U4 must be removed from the LAST CARD in the daisy chain. Later type Network cards have two relays on the PCB and when these are used the IC does not require removal. Also with the newer type cards, the relays effectively bypass the Network card should power be lost, whereas the older type cards would cause a network lock-up.

3GS Operation
In normal operation the 3GS should be in the `Stand-by' mode and acts as a `Data Gathering' device for the Datalog system. The Datalog monitors all change of states of all inputs, and alarm conditions are detected and handled by the Datalog computer system. If a 3GS zone input is tampered or disconnected, this is presented as an alarm condition irrespective of the inhibit condition. Tamper/Discon alarms can be `Reset' in the normal way on the Datalog PC, but blue flags will be displayed on the Main Site Plan as a reminder of uncleared faults. Many 3GS fault conditions are monitored, such as Battery Problem, Cabinet Tamper, Node Tamper Etc. The Datalog will display such alarms as fault alarms. the Datalog will automatically silence the 3GS buzzer and clear the alert on the 3GS panel. With cable faults and similar hardware errors, the Datalog will show the fault alarm as above but leave the 3GS alert active so that an Engineer will have the information available on the 3GS display. Whilst precise 3GS fault annunciation is provided by the Datalog, the recording of fault information within the history database is limited to general fault type information and panel number etc. This is because of the wide equipment platform with which the Datalog will operate and the vast quantity of differing fault text descriptions. The Datalog will also control 3GS node outputs and offer automatic output switching during alarm conditions or using Technical type inputs or by time of day/day of week. Custom software may also be available to control outputs for special purposes. More than 1 3GS panel can be connected to the Datalog using network drivers. If a network 3GS system is in use then the zones of each 3GS are mapped sequentially into the Datalog alarm system. (Note: for custom software applications, these numbers can vary) 3GS panel 1 (Panel ID 1) = Zone 1 to 200 3GS panel 2 (Panel ID 2) = Zone 201 to 400 etc. Should the system grow, and more 3GS panels are required then Contact Cortech Developments to increase the number of zones for the on site license and increase the number of active panels.
