[. . . ] Using your Day-Light on a regular basis during the fall, winter and spring months will not only keep your moods and energy level up, but it will also pleasantly brighten your home or office. Whether used as a task light, reading lamp, or placed on the shelf for enjoyable ambient light, your Day-Light can be put to good use for much more than your regular 20-30 minute light therapy session each morning. Using the wall mount option, you can create a pleasant light window effect. Tilted down, your Day-Light makes an excellent reading or task lamp. Choose the three-light setting for light therapy, and the twolight setting when you prefer lower intensity ambient light. 2 05/06/2004 www. day-lights. com Before Using Your Day-Light Before using your Day-Light, please: 1. Check package contents to ensure that all parts are enclosed and in good condition (see pictures below). Test light tubes to ensure that all three are in working order. In this event, you will need to remove and reinstall the nonfunctioning light tube to determine the problem, as described in the section Removing and Installing DayLight Tubes below. Using Your Day-Light This section explains how to remove and install the light tubes, and how to install the legs of your Day-Light. [. . . ] To re-install the light tube, hold the tube horizontally and slide the top end into the retainer clip. Next, gently slide the prongs into the light socket. When it is fully in place you will hear a `click'. Reinstall the elastic over the metal clips. NOTE: Elastics are installed for shipping safety, and are not otherwise necessary. If one of the elastics should break, you can safely discard it without affecting use of the Day-Light. Once the light tubes are installed correctly, plug the Day-Light in and check that the lights illuminate in each switch position. If working, unplug and continue to the next step. (If not, try again before determining that there is a problem with the light. ) 5. Make sure that the cord is threaded through the notch provided. While grasping the entire width of the Day-Light, turn it over so that it is face down on the table. To do this, grasp the bottom of the Day-Light case around the legs. Lift the Day-Light to an upright position. For optimum light therapy benefits, angle the light slightly forward about 10°15° as shown in photo. To achieve this angle, align the bottom part of the back of the Day-Light case with the back of the legs. This will be the most comfortable way to use the Day-Light during light therapy, and is the position recommended by experts in the field of light therapy research and treatment. You may need to loosen the knobs slightly to adjust the angle of the Day-Light for light therapy use, but do retighten when in position. You are now ready to plug in your the Day-Light and enjoy. For more detail on correct light therapy usage, read the section Guidelines for Light Therapy Use (page 6). When not using your Day-Light for light therapy, you can easily convert it to a task lamp by angling the light further down over your work space as shown in the photo. Using the Built-in Stand & Wall Mount Feature On the back of the Day-Light light case you will find a built-in stand and keyhole for wall mounting the light. Simply remove the legs from your Day-Light and pull out the built-in stand when you prefer to use this option. Now the light will stand conveniently on a tabletop, desk or shelf essentially wherever you need it. Though not the optimal position for light therapy, you can use the built-in stand for light therapy if it is not convenient to carry the adjustable legs when you travel. [. . . ] Generally, using the Day-Light for more than a task light after 8 p. m. is not recommended as it may delay your onset of sleep. Importance of Daily Use If you miss sessions or discontinue use of the system during the fall or winter after establishing a regular schedule of use, you are likely to notice a difference as your body returns to its usual wintertime energy level in response to lower levels of light. Upon resumption of the lighting schedule, your previous level of energy should return within a few days. Positioning of the Day-Light Your Day-Light works well when positioned on a table or counter top so that you may comfortably read, write or talk on the phone. [. . . ]
