Manual abstract: user guide DENTSPLY AUSTENAL ROTOMATIC FINISHER
Detailed instructions for use are in the User's Guide.
[. . . ] This type of use can be very meaningful if the VITALLIUM processing procedure is viewed in a total perspective. In other words, if castings are made with only minor surface defects, then the blasting media will eliminate these defects -- while the operator is doing something else. Obviously, the considerations for this extended use are far reaching and ultimately dependent upon a procedural ability to produce castings with minor surface defects. Of major emphasis would be the following: · A smooth surfaced refractory model (obtainable by proper use of Austenal® Protective Coat) · A careful selection and application of Flexseal® patterns so as to produce the exact shape and contour of the finished casting · A smooth wax-up of connecting parts, blended neatly together · A smooth back-up investment (obtainable by proper use of Austenal Protective Coat) · A correct burnout and casting procedure Fairly easily, high quality VITALLIUM castings can be obtained. [. . . ] Knock off enough investment so that button can be held in fingers. Apply pneumatic hammer to button and vibrate off as much investment as possible CAUTION: When applying pneumatic hammer, hold the casting by the button so as to avoid any damage to the case. NOTE: Excess investment remaining on castings will contaminate blasting media and shorten its effective use.
Cutting off Sprues
1. Remove sprues and buttons with cut-off disc. NOTE: Castings should not be tumbled with sprue buttons attached -- or in the presence of sprue buttons. The weight of the buttons during tumbling could potentially bend or mar the castings.
Tumbling
1. Place eight to ten castings into tumbler. · Scrap castings or rubber corks may be used if lesser number of castings are to be cleaned. · Small castings can be "loosely" attached to larger castings with small 1/2" diameter rubber bands. NOTE: Proper tumbling exposure to the abrasive blast depends upon the castings falling back into the focus point for the blast. Single castings will often ride high in the tumbler, or on occasion be blown out of it. The combined weight of 8-10 castings (or substitutes) will effectively prevent these happenings and account for a thorough investment removal. Close and latch the cover.

Rotomatic
3. · Check operating pressure (50 P. S. I. ) · When time is up, the tumbling will stop automatically.
Removal of Castings
1. The entire tumbler can be removed from the shaft and cabinet if desired. Inspect castings for complete freedom of investment ore oxide. NOTE: When investment or oxide residues are not completely removed, it is an indication for replenishment or changing of the blasting media. (See section on maintenance).
Before proceeding with the instructions for Rotomatic
Finishing (Unit#2), the reader should review the general requirements of the introductory paragraphs. When a casting of this quality has been obtained, the following procedures will be of special value to the user.
FINISHING (Unit #2)
Case Preparation Prior to Tumbling
1. Remove larger accumulations of "flash" or "over-contours" with ordinary stones and discs. · "Spot" grind, instead of running rampantly over the surfaces 2.
